Well is it?
Depends on what you want to do I guess.
:-P
But I haven't really heard all that much about it on 'tech sites'. I haven't heard alot being built with it or used on any particular project. Now I'm sure its being used all over the place, its just I haven't heard anything noteworthy.
Is it better than PHP? When would you use this over PHP or ASP.NET? Or Java Server Pages?

I've yet to use python to do anything.
But then again i haven't done much in areas that would use it. PHP, jsp and asp have served my needs.

I'd use anything over ASP.NET and JSP. ANYTHING.
I think both Perl and Python are pretty good, but I'd rather learn Ruby.

Because you know zero about itZimmer wrote:

It's close to jsp, but .net framework continues to evolves at a much faster pace than java.
But, if you don't have access to the tools and you have to relay to rely on a free stuff, then I agree it makes no sense.

Python is used quite a bit with BF2 modding... and other games i imagine.
Love is the answer
if you want to learn something you will never use, then learn c++
Not really, I worked for a couple of days with a bunch of developers working on ASP.NET and JSP and I must say. What a fucking pain.jsnipy wrote:

I know it's faster than PHP and it's a compiled and optimised language and all that shit, but I'd rather use something with a much larger community and open source. I also prefer a Linux machine. Windows servers fail.
Your experience of a 'couple of days' is not a valid conclusion and it is not any amount of time to make an assessment of language/technology. Besides saying Asp.net is vague anymore, were you you using MVC, MVP patterns or just vanilla webforms?Zimmer wrote:
