The successor of the great Overlord is released!
You haven't lived until you've stained the snow with some High Definition seal brains, trust us.

Take a look at THE OVERLORD SHOW and buy your very own Minion!

Why a minion, you ask? Here´s an excerpt from the Q&A:

Are Minions child-friendly?
That depends on how fast your child can run.

I have a cat, can I have a Minion too?
Minions will have no problems with any other pet you may have. Please note this may not work the other way round.

Are Minions carbon neutral?
Although Minions are clean and efficient, a lot of what they do results in smoke and fire, which has been known to make Mother Earth cry. But burnt down villages produce zero emissions, so in a way they're eco warriors.

If you´re interested now, try the demo! Available through the website and Steam. Hilariously fun and poilitically incorrect! A refreshingly different kind of game!
And to kill some time (and seals) while waiting try this fun Flash game:
Whack-A-Seal

I´m totally hyped for this game. I absolutely love the first one. It´s well done, damn funny and nicely different. Can´t wait for my copy to arrive!

What about you? Anyone interested? Already playing?

I got the demo but I still can't tell if its good or not, is the whole game that linear?

I havn´t got it yet, but judging from the first one (which is pretty similar), the level design is somewhat linear. But later on, you don´t notice much, cause your forced to use your minions to solve adventure-style riddles.
The demo is the first level, serving as a tutorial.

@krazed: Yeah, it seems they didn´t improve on the controls much, still a bit dodgy.

1. I like buying the physical copy rather than a downloaded license if at all possible. So I ordered it from Gamestop and even got a pre-order brown figurine.

2. The game seems about as linear as Overlord 1 from what I can tell so far, but I'm not very far into it. I've come up to the town's firewall and a portal to the dark tower, but can't access either. There's another area in another map guarded by a plant with a minion only path to the side, but that is a dead end and I have a feeling greens or blues will be required anyway. So as of now, I'm stuck with no way into my tower and no way to save. If the rest of the game throws puzzles in my way without even letting me know that it's a puzzle, it might seriously tank.

3. The minions themselves are really fun to use, and the addition of mounts makes it great. I just wish you could save them in your tower and give them gear (not sure if you can or not) rather than leaving them in the overworld. The first level of the game when a bunch of your minions break into discordant song had me smiling.

4. Controls, video and audio options need to be set outside of the game. Now I can see the technical advantages of video and audio being relegated to such a form, but why controls? I realize that it's essentially a console port, but I haven't gotten around to getting a 360 controller to use for Windows and was irritated at having to exit a dozen times to get things where I wanted them.

5. The initial blessing of not having to type a CD key is squelched by the requirement of inserting your CD every time you start the game. When I first started playing PC games, I was attracted to just being able to install them and start them whenever I wanted without popping a cartridge in. For the PC, CD requirements are outdated and really irritating, and the more I have to pop it out of its plastic jacket, the more I risk it potentially scratching up. With more and more emphasis being put into paper licenses rather than physical ownership, why sabotage peoples' copies?

6. SAVE STATES! PC games are usually awesome for their ability to save progress wherever and whenever you want. Gotta make an appointment? Need to see a movie? Want to feed your face? Go to work? Bed? Pull a bit of string around for your cat? Save it. Making a game more difficult by forcing you to progress or run all the way back to the tower (I think that saves too, but I can't figure out how to get there) is both artificial and unnecessary. Couldn't any effort on the developers' parts be expended on distinguishing the PC counterpart to the console versions?

===

It's a good game so far, but I hope I'm just overlooking something obvious with the progression. Overlord 1 was worth my dollar/hour, and I hope it'll be the same with this one.

Alright, as to the above post, I figured it out. Killing the three villagers was part of a quest progression. I had dominated all available ones. I guess even as an evil Overlord, you still have to follow orders.

Got it!! No time today, but will look into it tomorrow. Fromwhat un13 said, it sounds like the "issues" the first overlord had.
As for the saving, if you needed to quit, you were asked if you wanted to save before leaving or continue without. Can´t think of why they dropped it for the second?!

Played for a few hours yesterday. It´s fuckin amazing!!

There are a few issues, they carried over from the first one (controls, and saving or lack thereof), but they enhanced and extended pretty much everything! Roaming around your tower, seeing all the little minions doing things is out-fucken-standing!
The waypoint system has improved and you can finally SIT on your throne to manage your dark empire!

THe humor of course is equally brilliant to the first. Oh what joys I shall witness!

btw, can´t wait to finally smite that faggot elf florian greenheart.lulz.

lulz, I just got the greens. How much have you been playing?

Has anyone figured out yet, how to swap spells? I just found the halo spell, but have no clue how to use it. Something with Alt + A/D, but nothing works

You don't really 'swap' spells like you do with most fps weapons. It's all about keypress combos and whether or not to hold or tap a button. I know, ugh. If you're having problems with the keyboard, I recommend a gamepad. That's what this game was designed for anyway. Otherwise, reconfigure your controls with the out-of-game utility.

Oh, well, you were comparing the two versions.

Maybe they didn't drop exit-saves, but I didn't want to find out. You can save from your throne, but why not allow people to save anywhere without exiting the game or returning to the tower? What were they thinking?

Final complaint for now is, like the first game, you can't walk. Both minions and the overlord himself have walking animations, but you have to walk diagonally against ledges or walls. It's a minor complaint, but sometimes it's fun to casually strut into battle rather than run around like an intern.

See Jedi Knight.

It is, but it's a stupid nit. They animated it, so why isn't there a button for it?

Also, more of a warning before zoning into a new area would be nice. I like to hear all of that old goblin's complaints.

New thing:

OK, this is just poor design stuff, but why have a delay before you can skip an in-game cutscene? Especially one that you see over and over again, like the minion resurrection sequence? Yes, I get it. They're pulled out of the river. I find myself idly mashing spacebar for the first few seconds that I am required to watch before it's skippable. WHY? It all adds up and you can honestly sit there for several minutes watching the same thing over and over. Every minion that's resurrected (if you don't skip) gets up and hugs the blue, so why do we need to see it again? Also, could we possibly not have to sit and watch the Overlord step onto a moving platform and float away to move between locations in the tower?

YECH.

As for the saving, they did drop the exit save. You can only save from your throne or use the autosaves. This actually makes the save system even worse. I had to play the sewers 6 (!) times, because I died 4 times, than had to leave while being half-way trough and then started all from the beginning again twice.
In the first Overlord it didn´t save your exact location, but at least it saved how far you travelled through the map, which enemies you already killed, gold, life force, etc.

But otherwise it´s awesome! Dressing up the minions as legionnaires, watching them sing while infiltrating the base is pure gold!
Gameplay is far more diverse, great fun.

Has anyone found a good spot to harvest the pink crystals yet? The first sanctuary had a few, but with all the annoying flesh eating plants it´s a hassle.

Yeah, true. But they did it in the first too. It´s stretching the time played. Cheap trick. But I do like to walk around/fly on platforms through the Netherworld, seeing my tower upgrades and shiny things. I´m slightly pissed at the system of buying things for your tower thoug. Depending on who is your first mistress, hte purchasable items differ. But to compare too, you have to run back and forth halfway through your private chambers to switch between them bitches. Uncool. But spending gold on useless plunder like a giant snake throne is great fun!
