Hi guys, just signed up here, even though I have been browsing these forums for a few years now, and I hope to make some new friends.

Anyway I am currently going up the Ganz tree and I have the EMP grenade and the NetBat and the next in line is the drone. I field unlocked it on Camp and placed it behind that large container next to the crane where the EU like to camp and kill any PAC that rush up there. I decided to hang back a bit and see my drone in action so I hid behind the second container closer to the flag. A PAC guy ran up and my drone didn't beep meaning it didn't acquire a lock and the guy just ran off. i thought "OK probably a one off thing". I waited a while longer then a whole PAC squad ran up to where my drone was and a small firefight began between them, me and a couple of other EU guys. All the while the PAC were hiding behind the stack of wood in front of my drone and it didn't fire once. Then a guy turned around and destroyed it. I placed another a bit more in the open so it can get a clearer view of the enemy and it still didn't fire no matter how many PAC rushed up the hill. I find this strange because those damn things always shoot at me in the cramped Titan even when I am nowhere near them. How come mine didn't fire? Do you need to be near it or something for it to fire?

Well Random, your username describes the sentry guns quite accurately.

* First of all they need a free line of sight
Hiding behind a box makes the enemy invisible to the sentry gun.
This doesn't apply on board the titans since the walls are not walls to a sentry gun.

* Multiple targets seems to confuse them

* Random behavior is random

But if you really want to experience something frustrating, try the Accipiter. (Squad leader sentry gun unlock)
Then you'll know the true meaning of random behaviour!

(However, it can be useful since you can mount your infantry sonar on it and have your own portable UAV)

Really weird. Havent had any problems with centry drones ever. On other hand, squad leader's gun drone is bugged piece of junk.

It does not have a 360o field of fire so be sure you place it with the field of fire as accurate as possibly ...

Yeah they are more like "obstacles"
* Multiple targets seems to confuse them
So much for advanced technology

* Random behavior is random
So true.

But if you really want to experience something frustrating, try the Accipiter. (Squad leader sentry gun unlock)

]Yeah hate that thing so much. Gives away your position, doesn't kill anything, apart from yourself of course, gives minus points in vehicles and blows up randomly

(However, it can be useful since you can mount your infantry sonar on it and have your own portable UAV) Doesn't Otus do the same job?
Thanks for the tips.

Yeah you can use the Otus for the same thing but I don't like the static "red diamonds" they create.

(Frustrating to sneak around a corner and pounce on the enemy only to find that the enemy have moved and you have just lost the initiative...)

Besides, the Accipiter can put your enemies aim off and if you're out hunting with the Clark it's nice to distract them while you
try to close the distance for a kill.

BF2142 is quite low-tech in many areas compared to what we would have in the future.
The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.
