PITTSBURGH -- The Penguins will be back on the ice at Mellon Arena on Friday night, taking on the Washington Capitals, and fans may notice extra security around Caps star Alexander Ovechkin.

Pennsylvania state police are investigating a posting on the PittsburghPenguins.com message board that said, "I'm killing Ovechkin. I'll go to jail. I don't care anymore."

Police said the writer is a 17-year old from Chambersburg, Pa., which is near Harrisburg.

"I feel safe," Ovechkin said Friday, during a media availablility before Game 4 of the Pens-Caps playoff series. "I understand he's a big fan."

Police are taking the threat seriously, Pittsburgh police Lt. Kevin Kraus said, adding that the state police barracks in Chambersburg was handling the investigation.

In a written statement, state police in Chambersburg said Trooper Franklin Hershey went to a home on Newcomer Road in Guilford Township, Franklin County, to investigate the threat.

A laptop was removed from the home, police said. No arrests have been made.

Pittsburgh police originally investigated the complaint. They said it appeared to be a boast and that the young man was not in and did not intend to come to Pittsburgh.

"We're happy to be able to quickly identify the person who issued the threat and we believe the danger at this point has been resolved," Kraus said.

Police said comments like this threat are common to fan message boards.

Another person posted a message on a different Web site that said he wanted to run over Ovechkin with his car when he came to Pittsburgh. That person later apologized and no action was taken in that case.

WTAE Channel 4 Action News has learned that Ovechkin was escorted in and out of Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena for Game 3 of the Penguins-Capitals series.

Other measures have been taken to give Ovechkin special security, but it's unclear what those steps are.

The Penguins have only said that they were notified of the threat and that they turned all of their information over to police.

In a statement, the Capitals said, "We became aware of an inappropriate comment on a message board and referred it to appropriate authorities. We appreciate their diligence and have every confidence in our club's safety."
