Sure, I'm not good at the game. Sure, I use quite a few aids. Sure, I use the arrow keys to move. But the thing is, I enjoy the game, and thats what matters for me. Thought I'd record a few laps on board with Hamilton on Melbourne

Yeah, nothing special but I'd thought a few of you could give out a tip or two

You are using the 09 mod? Just downloaded f1rft2008 and fsone 2008. Which is better?

*cough* live for speed *cough*

Seriously though, go on ebay and buy a driving force pro, and a second wheel... the cheapest one possible.

Hook both up, bind the DFP as main controlls, hide the second wheel and put its pedals next to the main pedals, the assign clutch to the second gas pedal, and ebrake to the second brake pedal.... Then sit back and focus on how much you win.

Like so:

Keyboard racing is blasphemy

At least with the analogue joysticks and the triggers on the PS3/360 controllers you can control acceleration, braking and turning forces much better. With keyboard it's pretty much 0 (nothin) or 1 (full whack) when it comes to turning and acceleration/braking surely?

But you know considering you used a keyboard (and you have AIDS? or something?) that isn't bad kez

Ye I know keyboard racing is pretty awful (unless I'm playing Trackmania, which I don't find at all hard).

I was thinking of getting one of them wired Xbox 360 controllers that are compatible with the PC to play rFactor, I find the triggers on the controllers allow me to take more control of my acceleration coming out of the corners (on games like Forza and Race Pro for example) because with the keyboard I keep tapping the acceleration button to try and get speed. Is it a worthy buy, because I think it is

and yes, I have AIDS Mek

I would buy a cheap wheel first.

the wired xbox controllers aren't so much cheaper then a no frills wheel that it would be worth it... and while they may work for Forenza & GT those games were designed with controller players in mind. I know LFS was a BITCH with my xbox controller, and I would imagine that rFactor would be even harder.

A pad is better than a cheap wheel.

Cheap wheels are complete shite.

You can get a wired, or wireless, Xbox controller very cheaply these days and they're much more versatile for other stuff.

Alternatively buy a G25 and all will be good. Also get GTR Evolution, it's better than rFactor.

You want tips:
One. Get a wheel. Seriously. I have the G25 and I'll never go back. SOme of the best money I've spent.

Two. Hold your line. This is partly as a result of keyboarding, but you need to make the entrances and exits smoother. Spot the in point, the apex and the outpoint as you drive. Drive to through those points. Done. It's actually very difficult to do it right--you'll never have the perfect approach. So I suggest driving very slowly at first, doing it over and over until you can get the line right. As you get better, go faster.

Keep in mind that you want to turn as little as possible; on the chained bends, visualise in your head and plan a line accordingly. You don't have to hug the apex every time.
