Thank fuck for that, they realised that it was stupid. What they need to do is change the points system!

The FIA rejected FoTA's new points system. It remains the old 10-8-6.. etc etc

Yeah they're idiots for rejecting it, and I fucking know they did, I'm still saying they should've changed it to the 12-9-7 system.

Oh well, the old points system is still better than the wins system at least

The 12-9-7 system has its flaws though. There is a lot less competition as there is more points difference between 1st and 2nd, and it makes the not-as-good teams fall even more behind. Under the 10-8-6 system there is more competition because the points gap is a lot less, so in many cases it really does come down to the last race. Also, it means that lesser-known teams have a fighting chance to get a little bit closer to the bigger teams.

I prefer 10-8-6 over all systems, not least the stupid FIA "winner is person who wins most races" scheme.

What points system doesn't have flaws?

The only 'fair' racing would be a combined time added together of each race (similar to rally stages but for the whole season), but then you have the problems with DNFs.

Every system does have its flaws but I'd debate that the 10-8.. system is superior to the 12-9.. system. Combined time? That makes no sense for Formula 1. There would no where near the intensity of overtakes and qualifying would be useless for good drivers.

6 hours until the first Friday Practice of the F1 2009 Season!

Also, Brawn, Toyota and Williams are cleared for start with their dodgy diffuser.

This will be an interesting season.
Are Brawn as good as they seem to be?
Will Bernie die?
Is McLaren sandbagging?
Will Lewis run off if they arent?
Will Bernie die?

Gonna be an interesting season indeed.  My wife will hate me this weekend hehe.

I'll be getting up at 7AM and 8AM on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Damn Aussies :>

Just got my new satellite TV decoder in place, and tested it like 5 times already, to make sure it's ready for F1. lol.

The bookies actually have Button as this weekend's favorite. What a start that would bring to a sure-to-be-epic season.

You're lucky, to put it a way.  I'm in the eastern US.  I'll get practice, quals, and race...but not till 11pm at earliest (I'll have to chk my listings).  Aussie-land and Malaysia screw my sleep habits up. hehe

I understand, in regard to Brawn, that Sir Williams is saying they (BrawnGP) are making the rest look like amatuers. lol
Wouldnt that be nice?

"Old" news, but anyway:

Hamilton loses Aussie GP points

Lewis Hamilton and McLaren have been stripped of their podium finish and all points at the Australian Grand Prix.

The sport's world governing body, the FIA, said they were excluded "for providing evidence deliberately misleading to the stewards".

A post-race hearing promoted Hamilton from fourth to third after Jarno Trulli was penalised for passing Hamilton while the safety car was out.

Trulli and Toyota have been reinstated to third, and McLaren will not appeal.

Hamilton was summoned by stewards on Thursday, ahead of this weekend's Malaysian GP, to discuss what the FIA described as "a new element" of evidence.

That "new element" included radio exchanges between Hamilton and his team as well as a post-race interview given by the world champion.

"The stewards, having learned about the radio exchanges and the media interview, felt strongly that they had been misled by the driver and his team manager," said an FIA statement.

I think that each race testing and weekend deserves its own thread. It's so much easier to find older posts and it is very clear as to when people are talking about upcoming races etc if each had their own thread. It's not that many, and it's only one every two weeks or so.
