[Football Manager 09] Anyone play it?

I only recently (4 days ago) discovered the land of FM, and fuck it's addicting.

I suck though. I'm the manager of Chelsea (ofc), and started well with 5 wins and 2 draws the first 7 PL matches, but it's gone downhill from there. 4th place in the PL isn't good enough, with losses against Pompey and West Ham (). Suddenly everything just failed 'nd shit. At least I'm past the group phase of the CL, and in the Quarters of the Leage Cup.

Anyone else play? Got any good tactics, purchases, tips, etc?

I currently play in a 4-2-3-1 formation, but I have a 4-4-2 if I need a goal and a defensive 4-1-4-1 as well.

I'm Manager of Aston Villa. Unbeaten so far, only two Premier League games in, but I won all my pre-season games, and I have a 4-0 aggregate score to take into an away game in the Euro Cup

Anyone got any good budget Full-backs and Goalkeepers I can look at. I was thinking Joe Hart but I don't have the money to put a reasonable price for him

Full backs, umm, Vanden Borre can play well there on the right, Onyekachi Apam can play both sides and Cesar Peixoto is class on the left and cheap too. Trouble is I'm now in 2014 and especially with version of the game the regen players get good really quick so a lot of the best players about now are random regens. Goalies wise I got Craig Gordon on a free in the 2nd season also people like Ruffier, Ochoa and Fiorillo are all worth a look.

I just suck overall. Just got 0-0 against both Fulham and Newcastle, and beat Villa in the Leage Cup after penalties. Also, I lost 2-0 in btoh games against Porto in the group phase of CL. I get quite a few scoring chances, alone against the keeper, but Anelka & co. fail at scoring.

Also, injured:
- Drogba, 2 months (again)
- A. Cole, 4 months
- Ballack, 3 months
- Bosingwa, 2 months
- Terry just got back after 2 months

Fiddle around with your strike partnerships Jens. I usually do that so everyone is match fit and no-one gets too fatigued.

Which is why I would like to have a few more Defenders and Goalkeepers, maybe an extra central midfielder

Yeah there can be a problem with lack of scoring I struggled early on but since settling on my preferred team and a soild 4-4-2 formation I'm scoring regualrly and gunning for a Champions League spot with Stoke (got into UEFA last season). Get the patch to help sort some of the problems with game engine, and try Marquinhos or Laurito up front.

Don't give up whatever you do Jens, just mess around with tactics, maybe directly ask your forwards to place their shots.

I just got knocked out of FA Cup , guess I'll have to settle for the FA Trophy

I think I'm going to make a new save from the start, everythings fucked atm, lol.

Atm, I'm thinking:

Keeper
Cech is a god, ofc, Cudicini is decent, but at 34 he'll be out after a season

Defence
Terry, Carvalho and Alex are great, Mancienne will probably be awesome after a while. Ivanovich whines like a little cunt if he doesn't get to play for a couple of games, so I think imma sell him and get a decent replacement. Cole and Bosingwa are great, Bridge is a good replacement on the left. Ferreira is shit. I need a RB backup and a general backup (that can play RB and LB) and I think I'm set, as Belletti can play in the back position as well.

Middle
Lampard, Ballack, Deco, Essien, Mikel, Kalou, Malouda, J. Cole. Ja, I think I'm set?

Strikers
Drogba, Anelka, Kalou. Di Santo and Sinclair will be great, but that'll take time. Drogba starts off injured, and Kalou is a better winger than a striker, so I desperately need one or two new strikers.

After reading on a Norwegian FM09 forum, I've decided that my wishlist is as follows:

- Maggio (Napoli) - right back
- Pato (if I can get him)
- Bojan (If I can get him)
- Mario Balotelli (striker)
- Igancio Camacho - Mid
- Davide Santon

Then do a flat 4-4-2 or something, as my current 4-2-3-1 isn't giving me any goals at all.

As I say have a look at Marquinhos and Laurito both immense, other options Huntelaar (been excellent for me) Lewandowski and Gignac all will get goals in the prem.

Go onto a players profile, then onto player interactions and look at preferred moves, of place shots or something similar is there click it and they will then start to train to do it.

Played with arsenal for a season, won every game, 100 mil in the bank, bought just about every good player under the age of 23, and enough coaches to have max stars in all training fields.

jenspm pick up balotelli, miguel veloso, asenjo/fiorillo, and sakho. All young, all amazing, and if I could be bothered to keep playing they will become god-like. bojan is decent but a nightmare to acquire, balotelli is just better.

Back on topic I just finished 3rd in the Prem with Stoke, onto the Champions League next season then. Managed to pick up Willians Santana for 8m, but the quality of my midfield is now such, that he'll probably end up being a bit of a backup player, Matias Fernandez running forward from central left midfield is a god...
