Not gaming console like the 360 or PS3.

But the ` Console.

What are some useful commands/inputs?

I only know

/cg_drawfps 1 - 0
/connect 239.234.234.234:******     - If you get someone to shout an IP over TS/Vent then use the /connect to join the server they're playing in.

What are some other useful commands?

^FPS gainer, some servers kick you for it  (all the crap you see on the ground will be cleaned up)

/cg_fov 80

^Increases field of view (FOV), basically you can see more things happening in your monitor, standard is 65, 80 is max (one of the best IMO)

/cg_drawfps 1

^should know that one

/maxpackets 100

^If you get a consistent 125 FPS, use it. (better hit reg)

/snaps 30

reports more information from the server to your computer, so smoother animations, etc.

Hey TopHat, with FOV does your moniter have to be widescreen? Im guessing this drops FPS or puts a 'squeeze' on the render?

Also, like BF2 can we put Punkbuster to "sleep" for 500 seconds? Anyone know about this?

For best hit reg, you should use half the maxpackets that you have FPS. For instance, if you have 125 FPS, use 63 maxpackets. The best possible hitreg is 200 FPS with 100 maxpackets, but then you don't get the FPS "sweetspot" benefits.

You don't have to have widescreen for FOV 80. It slightly stretches the image, but it's very slight and you probably won't even notice.

Also, by default CoD4 uses pb_sleep 500.

If you go from the standard to FOV 80, it's very noticeable.

Oh, indeed. But as far as image distortion or stretching on a 4:3 monitor, not really any problems there.

/cg_drawlagometer 1

On maxpackets. . . for 125 69 or 100 works. If the value is higher then half it will limit it to as high as it can go. 100 works universally, 69 is as close as you will get for a value. Lower value = better FPS though, so if you have trouble getting a constant 125 go with maxpackets at 69 or even 30 or 40

maxpackets is based off of your FPS. It sends X packets Y times per second (where X = cl_maxpackets and Y = com_maxfps). Half the value of your com_maxfps is the best place for cl_maxpackets.

Also, lower cl_maxpackets doesn't alter your FPS at all, though it might help your ping if you have exceptionally slow internet.

I doubt I will use the lagometer, because after seeing Finray's post about being banned because some admin didn't know what it was

PB screenshot I suppose. Some know how to edit to take the SS full screen instead of just the relative center. I doubt I'd run into that but you know, so the lagometer. Is it actual ping/server connection or CPU/GPU?

@Rook - Don't worry about it, only a VERY stupid admin would ban for that, were talking like1%.
@CrazeD - Not worthless at all IMO, its just like showing FPS, even if you have a solid 125 FPS, its nice to be able to check. Same with lagometer, I like to know everything is running well. Plus if you join a server with a lot of lag, you can determine if its on your end or theirs.

If you had lag wouldn't it show up in the lagometer regardless?

It's best to use 63 if you have 125FPS, as Crazed said.

Here's a quote from BashandSlash.com

http://bashandslash.com/index.php?Itemid=63&id=51&option=com_content&task=view wrote:

Most of you will use MaxFPS 125. If so, your valid MaxPackets values will be as follows (assuming your PC can achieve its MaxFPS value constantly): (always round up these calculations to integers) 125/1 = 125 125/2 = 63  125/3 = 42 125/4 = 32 125/5 = 25 etc. You should choose the largest value that your connection can handle. If your MaxPackets is not set to a valid value, it is a potential waste of bandwidth and therefore potential lag/instability. For example, if your framerate drops to 100 then your valid MaxPackets values will change to: 100/1 = 100  100/2 = 50 100/3 = 34 100/4 = 25 etc. So if you have your Cl_MaxPackets set to 100 and are using 125fps then mostly your MaxPackets will be at 63 (highlited in yellow above) (this is the largest value not exceeding the input Cl_MaxPackets limit). However, when the framerate drops to 100fps, the MaxPackets will change to 100 as this is now the largest value that does not exceed the input Cl_MaxPackets limit (highlited in yellow above). If your connection cannot handle 100 packets it will cause your ping to rise or spike. Even if it can handle the jump from 63 to 100 packets, this may well cause your ping to fluctuate more than if your actual MaxPackets were constant. -injx

Agree 100%. If you see a lag spike then you get a bit of advanced warning to run to cover, so you don't get killed because of the lag.

Other useful commands are

/r_detail which, among other things, gets rid of skins, except golden skins.

/r_lodscalerigid 4
/r_lodscaleskinned 4 Setting these to 4 will reduce the draw distance of grass (so you can see snipers laying prone) and detail in soldiers (which helps FPS)

Umm. I'll come back and edit this when I think of more.

PB kicks for any other setting besides 1 for these.

Only if the server is set to kick for these.

I use them on everyone of my favourite servers, no problem. Other servers are set up so they kick for these, though.

Maybe it's just match configs then...

Yeah, Promod 4 forces one of these to 1, but on Vanilla I'm pretty sure you can get away with it.
