So i just bought the starship troopers game from 2005 (was only €5 ), but when i try to play it (main menu and ingame sounds and whatnot is just fine) i just see the radar, my health and some weird signs (objective indicators?) on the screen, the main graphics are completely screwed it's just colours flashing the whole time.

I already updated my graphics drivers (i have a club 3d hd4850) and the rest is also updated i think, some help with this problem would be really appreciated, cause i can't even play the game now.

It says when it was just released that it supported ati cards then, so don't know why it shouldn't support my newer ati card.

Have you restarted your PC after the install?

If so maybe a reinstall is in order ...

If I remember correctly, it has something to do with Anti-Aliasing and/or Shaders. Try fondeling with these options in the menu.

Game sucks major balls anyway, so you don´t miss much

An IGN score of 5/10 can't be all that bad. Then again, Great Edgar Hunt got a press average of 6 on IGN, but I liked it well enough.

I'm going to put ratings to the test with WH40K Firewarrior next week. Heard it was horrendous...

Well, I played it somewhat halfway through. Got it for free on a magazine cover. But the voice acting is horrible, ALL marines/marauders look EXACTLY the same and the terrain.Well.

But, there are good moments, especially those taken out of or inspired by the movie. And the weapon design is really nice too.

But again, it gets boring real quick.

I suppose the only thing I could say in defense of the movie is that the book ruined it for me...before it was even in theaters. As a B-film, it's great. As Starship Troopers...what the hell.

I read the book a few years after I first watched the movie (must have seen it about a bazillion times by now) and was really puzzled, because everything was different. The weapons, the names, the tactics and Dizzy was a dude?! Still considered it a good read though. The movie is ranking high amongst my all-time favorites. Not worth a golden globe, but as you said, watched with b-movie eyes, it plain rocks!

It wasn't my favorite sci-fi novel of Heinlein's (I liked 'Sixth Column,' 'The Moon is a Harsh Mistress' and 'Friday' better), but it was far removed from the low-budget bicycle helmets and Gulf War-era gear issued to the poor, proud men and women of the movie's bedraggled armed forces.

I´m not so into science fiction. I read the book because of the film. But I have to say, as a stand alone the movie is made really well. I never thought the gear was cheap. At least in the first one.

For sci-fi it is...not that Star Trek doesn't do the same thing. There are concept sketches and prototypes for power-armor  that kick the crap out of t-shirts and bicycle helmets.
