So I'm about a year late, but I finally bought the thing. I bought it on Steam, downloaded it - then noticed that it wouldn't run on Windows 7 as punkbuster doesn't recognize it. So I made a Vista partition, installed it and Battlefield 2, and 20 minutes into playing the game, the above described bug happens. Not only does it flicker, go black, then freeze, but the sound goes quieter, and I can't alt+ctrl+del out of it. In fact, the only way to exit the screen is by holding down the power button on my computer.

Please help me. I know other games run fine, because I ran BF2 on it for hours. I've turned off UAC, the in-game Anti-Aliasing, put the settings down, reinstalled my driver, and googled for hours. Maybe I'm an idiot on the last part, and just can't find the solution.

My specs are:
Intel 2.66 Ghz Quad
9800 NVIDIA GTX SLI 512MB
4GB RAM (not quite sure what)
32bit Vista

This problem only occurs in multi-player, and after a while of playing.

If there's already a thread on this, please point me towards it, as I haven't found anything about this particular bug at all

Had a similar problem where the display drivers would crap out altogether.

2 things to try:

1) If you use RealTek onboard sound, enable SterioMix, or uninstall them and use the Windows Sounds drivers.  (Some say pluggin in headphones and/or a microphone will work too)
2) If you have two PCI-E 2.0 ports on your PC, try switching your GPU to the other one.  (Fixed my issue)

Also try downloading monitor drivers, reinstalling the newest drivers, reinstalling the game...

It's a pain in the ass, I know, I couldn't play CoD4 for two weeks because of errors like these.   It's annoying especially when you've thrown down your cash for the game and you want your money's worth.

Good Luck!

I had an unknown PCI device that (turns out) was my ageia physics chip. Hope that solves the problem *crosses fingers*
Just did a whole reinstall of every driver on the system.
I really don't want to have to open the computer, as it will void my warranty from Dell.

edit: sorry for the double post before...
Shit. Now, the flicker happens 2mins into playing, my stats aren't being read properly, and I lost my levels.

Many people are having an issue when launching the multiplayer portion of Call of Duty 4.

Tips:
Reinstall the game
Update your Drivers

There are some issues running CoD 4 Multiplayer on some onboard sound cards. Users with RealTek(TM) onboard sound cards and Windows(R) Vista will need to use Microsoft Audio Drivers 6.0, which can be found at Microsoft Corporation and/or COD4 Windows Vista Audio Drivers Fix. Users with Sigmatel® onboard sound cards need to install all Windows® Vista updates, and the latest Sigmatel drivers from Dell.com.

If you are running the game from a secondary partition, download the latest BIOS updates from your motherboard manufacturer in addition to following the above instructions.

Since you said you installed it on a secondary partition, see if you can update your BIOS.  Be careful though...

Turned off SLI. So far, so good.
