Might nab Mass Effect...

Hopefully Steam will continue getting more and more games available.

(Take immature bandwagoning EA bashing elsewhere.)

For anyone outside north America who wants to see for themselves. I don't know if you can actually buy from there but you can put things in your basket and head to the checkout.

Almost DEFINITELY going to get Mass Effect. My friend loves it and has been trying to get me to play it for a while now.

Glad to see Dead Space is on there too, people can experience what an feeling it is to blast Necromorphs half to hell.

For the DRM freaks, Bioware has stated that the Steam version has no extra DRM on top of Steam's. Rumours say the same for Spore and maybe more, but I think thats mostly speculation.

The news item contradicts itself.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - December 18, 2008. Just in time for the holidays, Valve announced that, Spore™, Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack, Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning™, Mass Effect®, Need for Speed™ Undercover and EA SPORTS FIFA Manager 2009 are available now to gamers in North America via Steam, a leading platform for PC games and digital content with over 15 million accounts around the world.
"We are pleased to extend our holiday titles to gamers worldwide via Steam -- a revolutionary technology that is one of the game industry's most successful digital distribution services," said John Pleasants, President, Global Publishing & Chief Operating Officer.
Hopefully we'll see a worldwide release soon .

Also thanks Swinub i'd forgotten the code to see the US store and I wanted to see the prices.

I find myself buying far too many games over Steam now, mainly because I'm lazy and cannot wait for the delivery from retail- let alone entertaining the thought of getting out of my seat and buying a retail copy myself!

I think I'm getting into that sorta territory where a system reformat is going to call on a week's worth of solid content redownloading. Should probably look into a method for backing up Steam games...

That said, I'm going to continue buying many pwnage games from the Steam Store, even if their exchange-rates and taxes are a little extortionate! Great concept and delivery platform.

from Steam, "File > Backup Games".  I generally prefer 4.7GB DVD sized chunks.

One of my favorite features of Steam is the easy ability to back up everything to local media, in nice "pick your media size" chunks

So I hear...plus, now that F3 has gotten me into the whole RPG section of gaming, I think I'll enjoy it. My good friend enjoyed it vastly, as I said.

I'm just worried about my computer again. Maybe I'll get it in June when I upgrade.

Don't worry about your hardware if I remeber them right you should be fine.

However I would hardly say Mass Effect is anywhere near the quality of F3, and I didn't love F3.

Everywhere.

Not to mention the autosave is absolute shit.

Not at all like oblivion.

Liked it for a few days, there's a LOT of elevators, you'll probably spend 1/3 of your play time standing still in an elevator.

The autosave is also pretty rare, so prepare to be dieing and loading, just to have to go up another 3 or 4 elevators.

The plot was interesting, but not good enough to spend much money on.

There's no ammo, weapons "overheat" if you fire them too long, but you can just use burst fire and not run into many problems with it, though I had a glitch where whenever my weapons overheated they never cooled down, which sucked when I had to melee attack every enemy. Eventually I died and had to go up several elevators.

Pfft, I liked the dialogue. It's a very different kind of RPG to Fallout.

As Migs said though, don't expect any replay value. At all tbh. Probs better to buy a second hand copy on 360 and trade it back in again afterwards.

Was thinking of doing that...would probably be a better idea tbh. Plus, achievements.

I recommend Mass Effect. You can easily plough through a few playthroughs trying all the different classes .

The elevators aren't everywhere, and most of them you can skip on the Citadel with the rapid transit system (or whatever it was called, the orange consoles).

As far as the PC version is concerned, you can save whenever you want and as much as you want as long as you aren't in combat.

Oh don't worry, I'm sure almost every game publisher will distribute their content via online download services by 2020.

Have you seen the competition? Only thing that offers anything really different from what steam gives is gametap. Stuff like Impulse still have really small catalogues and don't offer the benefits steam does like a friends network or server browser.
