I hope this isn't true. All I can say really. Valve are so great because they're a privately owned company. They answer to nobody so they can do what they like. Being 'owned' by a bigger company is bad news.

On the other hand it will bring a lot more games, apps, media (and ads) to Steam. I doubt Valve would sell themselves without a very good reason. They're doing the best they ever have just now and have no reason to sell out like this.

IMO: this is a good thing. Valve have an awsome business model, but, like all games companies, need money. Google have that money and their business model aint half bad too.

I call bullshit on this one. But even if it's true, I really wouldn't mind at all. I think being owned by Google will give Valve a bigger budget to make even more amazing games and sell them for cheap, yet still maintain artistic integrity since I imagine Google would be somewhat hands-off... though that clause in Chrome does seem to contradict artistic integrity...

I recall an interview with Newell where he said that a good bit of their model, and success, comes from being relatively small and independent.

Google buying Valve would be... not really necessary. It would tarnish the name, if anything.
