IL2 doesn't have enough flight sims to compete with and say "yeah, we are the best". There aren't enough "good" ones to rate it as the best. Most WW2 flight sims are shit.

ive seen IL2 in the shops pretty cheap, i might give it a try.

in terms of realism, physics yes it is the best, it has its drawbacks (some bullet damage is too low like the .50 cal on the USAF aircraft.)
IL-2 is sweet, especially after the cartoon planes in BF2.
its fun offline, but online its so gay. the only plane people fly are spitfires and La-7s, and since they're from all around the world most of them lag out and its really hard to shoot them down.
