Has anybody tried using a different hard drive for their PS3? A friend of mine looked into it and I guess it has to be a 2.5" hard drive and the PS3 only allows the hard drive to spin at 5400rpm so you should be looking for one of those so you don't waste 1800rpm and they also don't get hot as easily. Well he is thinking about going overboard with a 500GB hard drive which is ridiculous for a PS3. He was looking into this one:

Has anybody tried using a completely different Hard Drive for their PS3? Curious if this works, if it does I might get one myself.

Yes, you can swap out the harddrive for the PS3. It tells you how to do so in the manual, and I think it is covered under warranty (Although I forgot for how long or what the conditions are). Read what serge posted in that link above, it tells you how to do it in a couple of steps.
