Think about how hard it would be to try and manually keep your ship in a tight orbit of say 2000 meters at a speed of 700 m/s and manually shoot at something all in space with no clear definition of up/down/left/right/north/south and while in zero-g. Beyond that add in the fact that you would have to keep an eye on your cap at all times, manually target enemies as your in combat with different targets, manage your modules, armor reps, hardeners, cap boosters, guns, ammo, etc. Yeah, doesn't sound like a game I would want to play.
