the music player doesnt work for two of the games i've tried. you simply get the message music is not allowed with this game. is this for selected games or is it because they need to be patched to alow it?
You have to wait for games to support it at the moment, it's now there but needs to be patched in. Burnout Paradise will get it soon, expect some but not all games to update so that you can have ingame music etc.. but at least expect most new games to definitely have the features.
It's true though, they should've had this shit from day 0.
Then again, Sony don't have the Software/OS knowledge that MS have, but surely with massive corporations like Sony that isn't a real issue.

Vick that's what I expected but nope
You know, I remember thinking years ago that I didn't like the way MS forced devs to do certain things for all their 360 games. I thought it was a bit too..Nazi-like.
But this 2.40 update.. Well firstly, this stuff should've been in the PS3 at the start as people've said. The way they've implemented the in-game music seems to be pretty crappy. No games support it on the updates release day? What? 1 game supports Trophies? Games that are out already 'might' get support for both of these things?
Well with the PS4 they'll probably look at the success of the 360 OS and their attempt which seems to me to be pretty poor so far, and make it so its both in the PS4 at the start, and mandatory for all games.
Now I know this is probably too early to say that. After all the update hasn't even been out a full day (since its gone again for bricking systems...) so of course support for the new features is very limited.
However, Sony should've made sure that it had support from day 1. Got some of the bigger devs together to have a proper release of the update. They really should have. Payed Infinity Ward, the Resistance Devs, Konami, maybe the GT ones. All the big PS3 games. You know, had a 2.40 launch that would be a big event. All the top games get the update at the same time as the console, all the top games get Trophy support, in-game music support, etc etc on day one. It could've been great.
Instead they roll it out when its obviously unfinished, with no support. A complete shambles as far as i'm concerned. Especially when the changes are this big.
Epic fail on Sony's part.

Tbh, it's not an epic fail at all, it's only an extreme minority that suffer from console bricking. No one i know has experienced it. The in game XMB works really well, and i don't actually want to play music in game, i want to hear my game. If i want music i'll just play it on my PC, which is right next to me lol.
On reflection though, it has taken too long to come out. But again, i play for the games, not all the extra fancy shit lol

Well thats it really. The update is out, and has it made any difference? From what you've said I get the impression that no, not really.
This was meant to be the update. Well i'm off to bed . Night all.

Yeah, it is kinda a dumb way to go about it...I guess given some time though it could be better this way, as it means that it will be done in a much more integrated fassion. See comments at the end of my post....HurricaИe wrote:

Honestly, a world of difference. All I really wanted/needed from this was the ability to contact other players WHILE WE ARE PLAYING. That makes all the difference in the world, as it was before the friends list was almost worthless. You could see a name on, and invite them... thats all, not even a custom invite message. Now I can message my friend and say "Hey lets race motorcycles in GTA4!". Rather then just sending a blind invatation and being rejected he can message back "I am in the middle of a mission, give me five minutes" finish what he is doing then let me know to send invite again.Spidery_Yoda wrote:

My main point: Its been out less then a day. Sony makes the consoles, not most of the games. Do you really expect Sony to issue patches for OTHER COMPANIES games? If your game does not support the newest features of the console that is the game developers fault/responsibility NOT Sony's.
The only thing Sony could have done was release the patch to game studios first, so they could have a patch ready as soon as the update came out.
But honestly, Sony was most likely re-working the code up until it was released. They can't really tell independent companies "Hey, make a patch by Wednesday"
Do you guys blame old XP software for not supporting multi core processors? No, because it was developed before that was around by a different company.
It is epic fail.Mint Sauce wrote:

This is basic shit, that should have been in since day 1.
If they'd bothered to match their main competition, they would have seen how simple and loved the X360 OS was, and copied it.

Well my point was that they should've at least tried to get some big name games to support it on day one. It wouldn't have been impossible. My point was just that the launch of this update could have been so much better. That's all.VicktorVauhn wrote:

Yes - They would have implemented their own version, with PS3 differences, and worked from there.SEREVENT wrote:

Not start way behind and have to patch it up.

Well, its fine for me, and all of my friends who dl'd it. Like Mint said, its a VERY small minority, that has been blown way out of proportion.FatherTed wrote:

Stop whining that music and trophies are unsupported.
It's an improvement, you can chat in game. Music and trophies will be implemented over time, and home is going to be amazing.
Sure, it fucked a small ammount of peoples PS3s, but for the people who it didn't, I don't get why you're complaining.

Well yeah, it would have been better that way... then again we don't really know what goes on in the Sony offices so who is to say they didn't try?Spidery_Yoda wrote:

How long does it take to get patches from companies when its a patch they are planning, let alone when Sony comes to them and says "ok, make this patch"
I doubt the big companies didn't know about the 2.40 patch until last wed.
From all the way back in the last round of consoles xbox had a great system for online gaming that cost money... and Sony just kinda had it so thta you could play online...
Sony has never really charged you for this, so its always kinda been an .... oh here, play online... kinda thing. I don't know why you would expect the free service to compete on equal footing with the one that is for sale.
I think its dumb that they would include things like messaging, but have no way to use it while playing games...the only thing consoles are really good for... but that doesn't really mean that its stupid they didn't have the complete system from day one.
Its a free bonus, online play was something that was necessary to have as an option this day and age but all the other stuff is just extras, and Sony has given us a lot for free here.
The fact that Sonys free service is on the level that people would even compair it to a pay service should say a lot honestly.
