That's 150 people, there is a 200 population cap. Are the other 50 villagers? And how do I avoid being rushed, I can't build 6 castles fast enough.

It sounds like you turtle too much. During the initial phases of a round, expand your economy by gathering resources/creating extra villagers. But at the same time start building an (albeit small) army. You have to find the right balance.

Oh and I always play Chinese because they've got the bombard tower, and the bots are incapable of using trebuchets for some reason.

Really... never seemed to not work against me.

When played I could beat I think 4 on hard... (sometimes). The early rush against multiple enemies is the hardest thing to defend, if they don't come or you make it through that it's pretty easy from then on.

If you want to make it easier, play a map like black forest where you'll have chock points which are much easier to defend and cost less to fill with walls. Also the comp is stupid so will go to the point of least resistance so have a strategic break in your defences for the comp to funnel into. Another option is to get a comp ally, and play 2 v 4/5, they're not very useful. But can help out in early the early game as a meat shield.

Starting out:
You'll need a good economy quickly, so get resources early on in this order:
Starting villages (I think its 3): Food, Food, Wood... send the scout to scout (find the gold,stone and chock points around your base)
Built Villagers:

• Food
• Food
• Food
• Food
• Build a house -> Barracks -> House
• Wood
• Wood
• Gold
• Gold
• Food
• Wood

Don't bother getting to the next age until you have about 20 villages

And then build about 20 militia, and upgrade them.

hmm, i used to play the game quite often few years back, but never used those market strategies, was always thinking about turtling or rushing..
Good strategy none the less.

Buy archers quickly and send out 5 of them to baserape their villagers. This should be an economic set back for them.
