Got a chance to play this the other day. It's got much better combat but still does a pretty poor job of being a stealth game compared to Splinter Cell. Plot is also completely nonsensical as are the cutscenes but hey, it wouldn't be MGS without those. Unlike what the reviews seem to be saying, the graphics are nothing to write home about. Snake's suit seems pretty high resolution but other than that they're pretty average these days (I played it on a 50" HDTV at 1080p). All in all, it seems like the PS3 finally has an exclusive worth playing but it's not game of the year material, especially since every second of gameplay is met with two seconds of cutscenes.
I bought a PS3 just for this. Couldnt get into Snake Eater, but MGS and MGS2 are some of my favorite games evah! Its pretty good, the only thing i dont like is the frame rate issues.. Cant wait to see how the story unfolds and whatnot.. Hopefully the patriots get taken down. I always loved how these games are sorta satire into the world now.. Patriots=NWO etc...
Ok, just started act 4

WTF am I supposed to do on this MGS1 level?

Um sorry to tell you, but get a new TV, there are no frame rate issues, atleast not for me.<SS>SonderKommando wrote:

Just run past the guards up the stairs on the right and go through the vent that is in the wall on the centre of the walkway.

I love this, the MGS1 Facecamo, playing the same area twice but with graphics 10 years apart, etc. This is the greatest game ever made (except for any games that are better).

I think the eggs were a metaphor for something...I dunno. I think it has something to do with the "Sun." Sunny-side-up, Sunny is cooking em...and if you look at the Act Titles, "Solid Sun" etc.SamTheMan:D wrote:

No really there arent frame rate issues, i have a 1 month old 32" philips HDTV and I have zero frame rate issues. Some of the hardware you own is fucked.<SS>SonderKommando wrote:

you'll probably want to finish snake eater first...it doesn't seem like it till you beat 4, but snake eater is very important to the story. it helps with the "holy crap didn't see that coming" factor. or at least read about it on wikipedia.<SS>SonderKommando wrote:

Definitely finish Snake Eater. You'll appreciate MGS4 SO much more if you did. I can say I did, I had several HOLY SHIT moments that referred to Snake Eaterjason85 wrote:

Im reckoning this games cutscenes alone are far better than some top movies and it just keeps getting more and more awsm as it goes through.
I need a PS3. Fast.
Yea lol, the one at the end of Act 3 was amazing. It was like 15 mins long.M.O.A.B wrote:

Is the 40GB PS3 backwards compatible? I think i got up to the point in snake eater where you meet up with this Russian weapons developer in his office after sneaking in, if i remember correctly he was drinkin the vodka pretty hard.. I think it was the jungle setting that threw me off, didnt feel MGS too me, ya know? After visiting Shadow Moses and the Big Shell...TrueMusou wrote:

PS.. OMG ACT IV?!?!?!?! YES!!!! but i only played it for like two min last night, is it the WHOLE area? Those who are there know what I mean??
Also, getting a cheap surround sound today, my TV has opitcal jacks for audio output, technically i can run an optical cable from the TV to a receiver leaving teh HDMI hookup from the PS3 to the tv.. This will save money from getting a good receiver with HDMI in and out right? Essentially just routing the sound with the digital cable from the TV to the receiver??
no<SS>SonderKommando wrote:

You visit some of the parts but not all of it
I just finished it last night. Something I will point out. Obviously you will watch the ending, but there are two seperate runs of credits you need to sit through. I went for a piss at the credits thinking, the fuck? Came back and there was yet ANOTHER cut scene which goes on for quite a bit and finially ties it all up. Just a word of warning cause I missed half of that final cut scene.
