Combat system genuinely does deliver, it's a breath of fresh air quite frankly after playing xyz free MMORPG, Guild Wars and of course World of Warcraft for the last 4 years. I was very skeptical about the setting / gameworld and character classes at first, but they have all turned out to be really unique and individually great features of the game that I wouldn't take away now even if I was given the choice .

Levels 1-40 was brilliant, captured that 'brand spanking new MMO' feeling marvelously. I would liken it to the 'glory days' of World of Warcraft... you know, that first time you enter a new zone and then spend 30 minutes doing nothing except pointlessly wandering around looking at things and stabbing strange creatures. The game is rather heavily instanced (an unfortunate complication of having such high-quality and huge game-detail) but it doesn't ruin the immersion at all because the game definitely has the 'X' Factor, so to speak.

However I must voice my own personal grumble. At level 50-55, the games content really started to slope off and thin out. Quests weren't as plentiful, there were less and less awesomely original zones to level in that were in my level bracket (50-60)- and I found myself spending more and more time grinding away on mobs ala Silkroad Online rather than questing my way through the land on my way to the level cap ala World of Warcraft. Personally I think they really spent their time polishing the first half of the game, and didn't anticipate so many people to rush up through the levels at no-life speeds. They intend to add more content and 'flesh out' the latter half of the game in June/July time... so keep your eyes peeled, I know I am!

I'd recommend Age of Conan overall, if only because it's the first MMO in years that has actually lived up to its criminal amounts of hype. Don't buy it if you're looking for a successor / substitute to the hegemony of Blizzard and World of Warcraft... because WoW this is not. It's a very different game, but as long as you have an open mind whilst looking for a new MMORPG, you'll enjoy it very much for what it is. I believe it's currently the top-rated game on mmorpg.com, and all of the early reviews were favorable and praising.

Hope that helped.

Uzique pretty much said it.

I have a 29 Assassin and a 16 Guardian atm, and I can vouch for it being a great game. If you don't like MMO's you probably won't like it, but it has much less gear focus and much more on the combat, which if you haven't looked into is really awesome - you perform combos kind of like in Tekken/x fighting game but they are easier to pull off.

And if you like annoying people or city wide brawls you started, then you will love it as the entire world almost is PvP FFA. (unless you choose a PvE server...pussy )

It also just hit the 1 million sold mark and outsold GTA for the last few weeks in some European countries.

I would recommend it. Especially if you are not the type to get to level 50 in 2 days - as you will both enjoy it more and not hit that level till they have added new content

I'd definitely buy it if it wasn't for that pathetic monthly subscription.

I dunno ey, the real time combat probs means my ping and occasional lag on MMOs would have me raped in pvp and pve over and over.

This is a criticism of the MMORPG genre and the financial implications of owning a game that constantly adds content and updates itself, not a negative aspect of Age of Conan specifically. To be fair if you'd look at it in terms of 'How much time will I spend playing AoC, when if I wasn't playing AoC I'd be down the pub'- you'll soon see that you're saving megabucks .

The lag (both connection related and hardware-fps related) could pose a problem in the 100 players+ large-scale siege battles that occur at endgame. However, most classes have AoE (area of effect) attacks as well as curses and the like, so it doesn't matter if you can't hit with lightning precision in a large warzone. I found the combo-system to be very hard to master in PvP at first; executing 3/4-part combo chains on a moving player that is constantly trying to attack you and stun/knockback/trap you is very hard. But then I realised that this was exactly what I was looking for. I'd just grown too accustomed to the PvP system of World of Warcraft - see a class, commence the typical chain of moves and CC's to deal with said class - and found an actual realtime challenge too much of a mindboggle. Am in love with it now though .

Worth mentioning, i think most complaints come from underage people who has to rely on daddy or mommy to play with Conan this should´nt be an issue since it´s from 18 most people at that age has some sort of income.

Of course there are exceptions but those few bucks every month ain't much compared to what Uziqe mentioned playtime etc.

@ the topic AoC looks great but i don´t think i will even bother testing it i played WoW some but it soaked up to much time i won´t bother again.

I am 32 years old and am making that complaint. Course, were I single I would probably have no problems with a monthly subscription game, but I am not. And when you have to provide for your wife and family, even a few bucks a month can make a big difference. As for the money spent at the pub issue, as I don't frequent the local bars this is not an issue either.

I guess you guys have somewhat of a point.

If I had a decent paying job, I might buy it.

But then again, even with a job, paintball would take 70% of my money..

Flecco, I have constant 400 ping (like in any MMO for an Australian really) and I can do it fine. Don;t let that stop you playing

Like Uzique said, it takes a bit of getting used to, but it is a really great system.

How can you make an MMO and expect there not to be no lifers who level faster than they can update releases? That being said, my mate installed the game. 32gb install? What the fuck? My computer wouldn't even be able to handle installing it let alone playing it. I read the handbooks and you can buy your mount with real money (lol rofl lol), The classes are ALMOST an exact replicate of WoW, but where it really differs is the combat system. I don't really think that they can surpass wow in my opinion.

I like it well enough, and $15/mo isn't really that much money when you consider what some people spend on entertainment (or even a day in a LAN house). The problem is, my collection is so vast that I feel like I'm neglecting it if I do too much AoC, I feel like I'm wasting money if I don't play AoC, and when I'm playing AoC, the reptilian part of my brain is thinking about what I'm spending on it.

Well 32gb is because it is such a detailed and good looking game, with lots of world. WoW may have more world to explore, but you have to admit, it looks fairly bad. And honestly, I picked up a 500GB harddrive for $100 last week....$100 is not much at all for that much space.

Havent seen the real money thing myself, but it is optional if it is actually true and should have no impact on your view of the game.

Of course the classes are similar to WoW. If I wanted to be pedantic I could say WoW copied of earlier RPG's - you can't just invent your own classes for the heck of it - they have to be needed and be useful. The difference in AoC is that there are 4 archetypes and then there are three classes in each archetype filling different roles.

ie. In the "Rogue" archetype you have Assassin, Ranger and Barbarian.

I know I sound like a fanboy but it is worth trying at least, because it might sound like a copy of WoW (what mmo doesnt), but it is really quite unique.
