Hello everyone!

I just installed a new mainboard together with windows XP. Whenever i play BF2, the screen freezes after like 2-25 minutes. I was wondering if my power supply is too weak, but it worked before in my old pc with the same graphicscard. So, what could the source of my problem be?

My specs:

MSI PT880 Neo FISR (Sockel 478)
2.8 GHz
1.0 G of RAM
6660GT (used in AGP 8x mode)
420 W power sup

I have another question as well. In my BIOS, it states under the heading "Frequency / Voltage Control" that the AGP frequency is 66.6. Where is this value coming from and how do I know its correct?

It's the frequency of the beast. It's posessed.

Sorry, that's of no help.

You say you've just insalled a new motherboard: did you reinstall windows, or did you just connect up the harddrive form the previous machine and install the drivers when it asked for them?

Ideally a reinstall is what ya wanna do when installing major new hardware like a motherboard.

It's not likely the power supply being too weak.  When there's not enough power going through the system, you get random reboots because a voltage line dropped below spec.  This can happen when playing games or using CPU intensive applications.  But given that this only happens when playing BF2, the possibility is still there somewhat.

My first guess is to check the graphic card's heatsink/fan to ensure that it's working and running.  Initially it could be heat issues.  But I'd like to be thorough that it isn't that.

The apg frequency in the bios is just how fast the motherboard will give information to the card. 66.6 is the correct setting for the AGP slot, and you shouldnt try changing it. For future reference, the pci/agp/pci-e frequencies are 33, 66 and 100, respectively.

As for your freezing problem, if youre using the standard forceware drivers, there should be a tab in your forceware control panel that tells you the temperature. You can just monitor that every 5 minutes or so and see if your GPU temps are getting to  insane levels. You can also simply pop the side off your case and point a table fan at the inside, and if you still have the same problem then its probably not heat related.

It would also help to know the video card driver revision you are using, and the brand of cpu. Sixshot and I both wrote threads on how to report technical problems... why doesnt anyone read them

Thx for your advice guys. well, i have three fans in my new case, so there is more air cirrculation than in my old one, where i used the same graphicscard. Im just going to reinstall BF2 and hope it works fine than.

Oh, and the guide you set out is really good, ill stick to it next time. PROMISE!!!
