The Metal Gear series has never been exclusive to any console, so the fanboy's can get off that trip now. The original 2 games were on Nintendo consoles, the third (which most people consider the first) came out on both Playstation and Gamecube, and the last two were released on both Xbox and PS2. I see no reason why MGS4 wouldn't come to Xbox360, even if not right at release.
Metal Gear Solid was a timed exclusive on the PS1. It was a great game. The PC version sucked, not many people liked it.
MGS: The Twin Snakes is a remake by a different company (Silicon Knights not Kojima Productions) but released by Konami.
It is an exclusive to the Gamecube. It is defiantly not the same game as MGS on the PS1. Plenty of different stuff compared to the original game. Not many people liked it because the the added 'extras'.
MGS2 was the only game released on two different consoles of the same generation. The Xbox version wasn't as good as the PS2 versions because it was ported over (frame rate issues etc.)
MGS3 was exclusive to the PS2. Never released on the Xbox or any other console. Came with the first two MG games, exclusive?
MGS4 will be a PS3 exclusive because Konami or KojiPro will not want to spend the extra money building on another console and trying to somewhat win over another fanbase.
MGS was always made on the PS first. They have had success with MGS on the PS unlike the other consoles/PC. For right now, MGS4 will be a PS3 exclusive, it may be ported over a year or two later to the X360 which would make it a timed exclusive. But as I said already, Ryan Payton confirmed on the podcast that MGS4 will be an exclusive.
