The Situation:
Every so often (appreantly at random) a small prgram runs.  An unnamed icon shows up in the task bar then disappears.  The annoying thing is it minimizes BF2 - again at random.

I have run SpyBot, Adaware & McAfee - all with nothing found.  Any suggestions on how to find out what this little devil is?

When it runs, do Alt-Ctrl-Del and look in the processes to find out it's name. Are you on XP? If so, run msconfig and make sure there's nothing unusual in the startup section.

A better utility may be Sysinternal's Autoruns.  I also suggest going over to Trend Micro and running their online Anti-Spyware tool there.  It also cannot hurt to grab avast!'s virus cleaner tool just in case.  When you get weird things happening, it's time to either 1) eliminate the problem completely and quickly or 2) wipe Windows and reinstall completely from scratch.  The latter is very extreme for the inexperienced but it guarantees that everything gets cleared out and that you start out from a clean slate.

That was it!  I was trying to remember "msconfig".  I popped that open and there was the culpruit - I have a HP printer as a network node.  For some reason MY PC was chosen to monitor the fool thing.  I diabled all of the HP faffery and BF2 has bee running for 20 minutes stright w/no crash to desk top.

Thanks folks!
