I got my hands on some decent hardware for a decent price (Barton 2600+, 512MB DDR333 and a 200GB HD for a total of 25€), so I decided to install the stuff in my secondary gaming rig, to make it more BF2-capable for two-man LANs. The CPU being a Barton, I oc'd it quite a lot (1900MHz to 2400MHz), pushing the limits of the low-CFM 80mm fan on the heatsink, making the CPU idle at 58 and run at 70+ under load, so I dug up my half-dead Freezer7Pro fan and screwed it onto the heatsink. Took 18C off my idle temp and 14 off my load temp:
One of my older mods is done to this 450w PSU. I replaced the fan that broke after a while and put an automatic fan controller in it. I also removed the fan grill.
I want to see more posts in this thread from now on, it's one of the best threads in Tech.

I got tired of my secondary rig's 80mm PSU's fan, and taking the top off of a 120mm PSU wouldn't work because of the heatsinks on the inside, so:

I did a bit of ghetto modding today on my PC. Mainly improved cabling. I don't have any piping right now so the edges of the holes I cut are still a bit rough. I'll get some tomorrow. Pics taken with my leetzor phone. My mom stole my camera again

Cut out the back mesh of the casefan.
New hole for 12V 8pin "P4" connector. Also blue heatsinks on the power regulators
New hole for SATA, fan cable and front pannel headers
New hole for 24pin and 2x6pin PCI-e power connectors
New intake fan & hole on bottom. The bottom card always ran a bit hot. I would have liked to have placed it a bit further back but the case feet are in the way
Status of temp HTPC until my case arrives, I move and I buy a new TV + amp. Think the 120mm fan is overkill for the northbridge?
HDs all over the place. Pink foam so I don't get resonance in the chest they are on currently

Hey good idea, I've just got my fan controller weged in a 3.5" bay opening....definately looks ghetto.

if i may, the newer Dremel Stylus is absolutely great.
its batteries leave something to be desired, but its cordless, small and it fits perfectly in your hands.
i got mine for $70, i believe.

It's a very high speed rotary tool (30,000RPM) so it can cut things very effectively. It has cutting wheels (like in the picture) which are used to cut metal, plastic, wood, pretty much anything, then it has sanders, etching bits, polishing/buffing wheels, different types of stones, etc. You can pretty much do anything with a Dremel.PBAsydney wrote:
