Which is your favorite? Mine is Master of Puppets. It's sheer metal all the way through. I'll listen to the whole thing enjoying each song.

So hard to choose between Lightning, Puppets and Black... but Lightning gets it.
The mix isn't up to par with the later albums, but it has, arguably, their best instrumental. It also has Fade to Black, which was practically the metalhead national anthem back in the 80s.

Everything up to the black album kicks ass, I like all the songs from those albums. Everything after that is alright.
I'm going to have to vote for the Black Album, because the first Metallica song I heard was Enter Sandman.. After hearing that song I started to listen to more and more of their music. Now Metallica is my favorite band by far.
