I just added another set of 2x512 OCZ Gold PC3200 to my system for a total of 2gb. I got it to boot eventually, but now windows is telling me its still only got 1gb. EVEREST and speedfan both show the sticks in there but only a total of 1gb. Any ideas?

if youre new and old memory are different speeds then the bios will probably not recognize it all. You will need to manually set the memory speeds to the slower of your two ram's settings. All of your ram has to run at the same speed.

Speeds on the ram are the same, i've adjusted the timings to be the same. But the bios still wont recognize...i feel like im shit out of luck

are the ram different sizes? Are you using all the slots on the motherboard? Have you tried the new ram by itself?

that doesnt mean it wont be recognised,

You need XP Pro SP2

the operating system should have no bearing on whether the RAM is recognized. If the bios itself does not recognize the RAM, then it doesnt matter a bit what you do inside windows. If the bios recognizes all the memory, and windows does not, then you have an entirely different problem.

why wouldnt the bios recognise the memory? unless the memory is faulty, What type of board are u using?

DFI LanParty Ultra NF4 Motherboard
OCZ 2x512MB PC3200 Dual Channel 2-2-2-5 (original ram)
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego
Maxtor 200GB SATA 16mb
eVGA Nvidia 7800GTX 256mb

I have tried the new ram by itself and it works just fine. Its only when using both the old set and new together which occupies all 4 slots in my motherboard.

I am also running WinXp SP2.

EVEREST and CPU-Z both recognize all the RAM, but under total shows only 1GB

in that screenshot, 2 of your sticks are being run at 2.5 CAS, and the other 2 at 2.0. Go back to your bios and make sure that the CAS timing is set manually to 2.5, and that should force all of to run at 2.5. The TRAS also should be set to 7, because again, half your ram is running at one speed, and the other half at another.

its not actually running at 2 diff timings, coz thats not possible, those values are just the SPD timings

I think its a windows issue

Well regardless, Id set the CAS to 2.5 and the TRAS to 7, and see if it helps at all. If you havent already done so that is.

click your heels 3 times and wish it would work? I dunno man, you got me stumped.

The only other thing I would try is a repair or full installation of windows. Also, if you havent updated to the latest solid bios revision I'd try that as well.
