3DMark 05 scores with 512 Mb was 8638!  I haven't ran it yet with the new ram I have but I would not doubt that the score would jump a 1000.

lol, u shouldve got the X2 3800+, but 4000+ is good enough imo

yeah single core shouldnt be bought if you are upgrading, X2 all the way, or wait for M2, but albeit a very nice system

I do plan on overclocking, just not till I know for sure everything runs stable as it is. 

Dual core isn't really required for OC.  Another buddy of mine has his OC'd from the base 2.2 to 2.8 with no problems whatsoever.  As soon as my new fans come in and I install them I will post some pictures. 


I am one of those people that still believe in CRT's for life also!  Flat screens are cool and sleek but you still get more "true" color from a CRT.

I'll nod to the fact that single-core would be better for gaming... but... in today's age of running multiple applications, do we want to stick with single-core?

And for anything that becomes outdated, it applies to all hardware.   Dual-core is becoming more of an advantage for applications that makes heavy use of multi-threading.  3D rendering, modeling, photo editing/manipulation, audio/video processing, and soon 3D gaming will be amongst the list of things that'll take advantage of systems having more than one processor core.

There are people who multi-task, run multiple programs, and/or do any of the aforementioned things.  All of these have some form of multi-threading, of which multi-core processors will benefit from.  The norm is now, as Photoshop has been a long-standing photo-manipulation software that is multi-threaded.  Various 3D modeling and rendering applications are also made thread-aware.  Video processing like AutoGK are also multi-threaded.  I think it is normal nowadays that we have applications that make use of multi-core processors whenever possible.  So dual-core isn't to be outdated, yet.  And quad-core processors are still a while away (a year, maybe 2).  For now, dual-core does have its perks whether you game or not.  For me, I use it so that I can do multiple things at once... or at least have multiple softwares running at once.

However, it all boils down to how the computer is being used: for gaming, multimedia, multi-tasking, or whatever.  Factor everything in and the user should decide if multi-core processors are worth the money spent.
