I just got a new HDD which I've started to install all my crap on, however I want to move all my e-purchased Steam games across. How can I best do this? I'm assuming I could just redownload them, however I'd rather not do that, especially with GTASA as it's about 5 gigs and being on a uni network they limit me to 500mb a day. Which makes me a sad panda. So yeah, copy pasta-ing them across would be best, what files and folders need to be moved? I've also heard Valve close accounts that are being used on several computers, is that true or is someone talking out of their ass? Thank you!

Install steam on the PC

Download the games onto your PC through steam

Problem solved

edit: the problem i had when i downloaded steam onto my dad's PC is that when i was playing a game i got logged out of my account because my dad logged into his computer and it automatically logged my account into steam on my Dad's PC.

As said in the OP, I'm aware I can do that, however I'd rather not and was wondering if there was an alternative method.

yea, they don't close accounts (well, at least not because of this...) your account on the first computer just gets signed off when you sign in else where....

And there may be a "Back-up game data option" in steam, not sure.... going to check.

edit: yea, if you right click on a game, it will let you back up game files...

Also, get cable. I did, at my college. It is win.

First, login to steam so it makes the files to get in your Steam directory.

Then Exit.

Copy over the steamapps folder.

Reload Steam, "Verify local content".

I've moved mine several times. You normally just have to delete the file ClientRegistry.blob from the root if you have issues.

I also have it both on my work PC and Home PC and no issues, since you cant use it in two places at once I cant see why Valve would care.

The only issue you can have is things like Xfire not detecting steam games as you may not have all the registry settings... I haven't done it but to get around this just install the base steam package then either copy your whole steam directory over it and delete the 'ClientRegistry.blob' or you can just copy all the big files into place to avoid the big downloads (i.e. all the huge .gcf file into the root of SteamApps)
