Can we have the specs of your machine? Motherboard make and RAM brand would be good, specifically.

Case Shuttle FN45 ATX Flex Format

Mainboard: Shuttle Form Factor Mainboard FN45, Sockel A 400MHz FSB,
8x AGP Slot, 6x USB2, 2xATA133, 3xFirewire,
Chipsatz: nVidia nForce2 Ultra 400 (Southbridge: MCP-T), 6-Kanal AC97 2.2 Codec

CPU: AMD Athlon +3200

RAM: 2x 512 184 Pin DDR400 3200 CL3

Disk: Maxtor 120GB 7200 8MB Cache

Graphics: ATI Readon 9600XT 128MB

Have you tried it with just one of the 1gb sticks in? It could be faulty RAM, I suppose.

i love dirty slots... escpecially ones from street corners...

have you got the ram correctly bedded into the ram ports?  i mean, ram needs to be paired, its not simply a matter of filling all 4 (u have 4?) slots with whatever ram u have.  u need to pair them, usually into 2x2. your mobo manual should explain.. make sure that you havent inadvertently tinkered with any ram settings on bios also..


if u in doubt, reset to default and try that.

Thanks folks, the FN45 board has only 2 RAM slots... so not too much to do wrong... but I'll try one by one... could be one faulty.... hmmm?

As other people have mentioned, your memory timings are probably set incorrectly in the BIOS. Most motherboards will not detect the proper speed of ram, especially if you change from one type to another. Find out the timings on the RAM you put in (I'm assuming you put two identical sticks in).

There will be 5 important numbers. The speed of the ram, which should be something like pc3200/ddr400, and 4 numbers, IE: 3.3.3.8. The first number is the speed the ram will operate at, the other 4 are the internal timings in the ram itself.  The 4 numbers refer to: CAS/tRCD/tRP/tRAS. You dont actually need to know what that stands for, but its important the settings in the motherboard memory section are identical to whatever your RAM is designed to operate with.

If you've been overclocking, then your computer may be trying to operate the RAM at a faster speed than its designed to. The front side bus determines how fast your RAM will be, so if you've been pumping the FSB up and havent decreased the mhz speed on your ram, it will cause problems. I don't really need to get into that very much, suffice it to say if you've changed your FSB in any way, set it back to default and see if that works.

Also, have you tried running other programs? Do they have the same problem or do they run ok?

@Skrupules... thanks for you infos. Now it's working about 1 hour... but then also dropping out just with a black-screen... ;-((( and rebooting.... buff.. So I've to review the speed settings another time... I've just adapted the 3rst number (CAS) which is 3 on the RAM. Of course I was in a "slight" overclocking mode... to get more out of the box... so yesterday I put it back to "optimal" mode... but obviously not good enough for these RAMs.

Yesterday I ripped the 2 RAMs off again... to get a few hours of game.... !!!! hehehehe...
