Supreme Commander is & will always be the best RTS of all time, the expansion just enhances it further. If you liked total annihilation which was voted best RTS ever, you'll love SC & pick it right up. The depth of the tiers, units & maps, GPG net, the balance, they exceeded my expectations & they were very high from TA. It is a resource hog though , I don't recommend it unless you have at least a dual core in your rig.
Did I mention the ranking systems & tourneys every day? The support for this game is everything TA should have had.
And yeah with thousands of units running around, nukes going off & movement everywhere plus huge maps & you'll have a little lag from time to time but the battles are epic & worth it.

I thought Gens was the weakest CnC game, all you did was sit back in your base, build a bunch of super-weapons and keep hitting your enemy with them. All other CnC games you could only make one super weapon and it took longer to charge up and/or was much less powerful. Also you had the commander powers which were the same but on a different scale. In RA2 the super-weapons were either the nuke/weatherdevice/pyshic device which took ten minutes to charge up or the iron-curtain/chronoshpere/mutator which were not massively destructive. In CnC3 the weapons took seven minutes to charge (compared to Gens' nuke the longest charging's six minutes). CnC3 also had support powers similar to the general powers but the CnC3 ones cost a lot of money to use and were only useful against stationary units and low-level builds while the ones in gens were free and could do tremendous damage. Because of this Gens was mostly about quickly building like three super-weapons and then just hitting your enemy with them unit they were gone. Also the units were not pay-as-you-go like in the other CnC games but a single payment when they were queued up, this means that unit production is much slower than in the other games, further increasing emphasis on super-weapons.FatherTed wrote:

I donno, CnC Gens is a nice break from the total sci fi of other CnC's, and super weapons only dominate if you let them.DoctaStrangelove wrote:

Any decent army has the ability to take out the super weps before they're active.
If anything i find the game comes down to who has the most effective airforce.

WWII: CoH
Empire/civilization building: RoN, AoE II
True strategy: SC/SC:FA
Sci-Fi: CnC, any Tiberium universe game, SC/SC:FA (again)
Fantasy: BFME:II (I can't really recommend much here, since I hate fantasy in general)

ok, so i checked out www.supremecommander.com. looks intriguing, a bit sci-fi, but not too crazy. so the gameplay isnt scripted, right?
CoH looks very scripted. i like building war factories and creating a custom army. not just leading a given set of units through a one dimensional battle, you know what i mean?

Definately Company of Heroes
Campaign somewhat, but you can choose how to accomplish objectives. They are more guided skirmishes than interactive movies.steelie34 wrote:

Whenever I play with friends it ends up being whoever has the most Aurora bombers wins.
Yeah, but that's assuming you love ancient and medieval (I do). This game still pwns in its own right. Its a 2 year old game and still holding weight.Hallvard wrote:

Indeed, I <3 Fuel Air Auroras. To Date, Gens is still my favorite CNC, as no other Rts has really mastered Aircraft in game(aside from WiC dpeneding on if you define it as RTS). I never saw the emphasis on superweapons, only kills bad player who love to group everything together. Waves of units can easily kill just as easily as a Nuke, or a single Con. Burton(sp) behind enemy lines .TimmmmaaaaH wrote:

AOE2 was a great time online. RTS games don't really appeal to me much anymore but that one with always hold a place in my heart.
BfME 1 had a different approach, letting you build fast on pre-set slots in pre-build castles. In BfME II they let go of this concept and scaled up the battles to appeal to the more hardcore RTS'ers. In my opinion that was a fail,.. I liked the old concept, I like buildings squad of five rather than either one or a few dozen, I liked the fast pace and I liked being able to walk on your walls. BfME II wasn't bad, but everything that made BfME I stand out from the RTS crowd was set abandonned and overall it seemed a bit uninspired as well. I like the LoTR books much better than the movies, but BfME simply was movie based and the second part lacked that background. The only good thing about the second part are the naval battles, but they are very limited. Get part I if you want a BfME game, it's cheap, looks nice, is addictive and has variable gameplay.stkhoplite wrote:

AoE is a European Mediterranean game (location wise), the problem with AoE3 is that it was Americanocentric. Had they staged it in Europe and from there allowed players to fight in and for the colonies, rather than the home towns concept; they could have included the Zulu Wars, the Napoleonic Wars, the Ottoman expansion and the Colonization of America. It would have been more true to history like part I and II and much more variated. I think it's a pity they didn't, because the musket and artillery combat system was very good.The_Mac wrote:

DUDE I'm in your position, I've played CoH for a while and it get's borin easily. IMO the best modern combat RTS out there is C&C Generals: Zero Hour, if your bored of the original why not try the mods?
Yep, The Reborn mod was one of the best mods Ive ever played, really flushed out the diffrent classes and added a huge amount of units, and new general powers, and the units actually looked great, non of the half assery(made it up just now) you get with alot of mods.Jackabo wrote:

Uh....Have you played recently? The Opposing Fronts breathes new life into the series. I used to get bored of CoH, but with OF, it's awesome.Jackabo wrote:
