I have been having a problem, it happens some days and others it works great, but if there is a problem it keeps happening no matter how many times I restart.   Basically I am playing BF2 and my screen will jump a bit then, it freezes.  I can't alt-tab out or ctrl-alt-del to end.  I have done a virsus scan, a spyware scan, defraged, and closed any unnessarcy processes.  I have two gigs of ddr2 mem, and an nvidia 6600 video card.  What is real strange is I usully give up playing for the day and then no problem for the next few days and it happens again.  I also have the latest driver for my Vid card.  Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Don't listen to cyborg . . . just yet.

What settings are you playing at? Does your video card contain a fan? What type of climate do you live in? How long has this been happening?

I play with my setting on a mix of low and medium, I was on all medium for the first six monthes I played but since this started happening I lowered some of them.  This has been happening off and on for about two or three weeks.  I live in So. Eastrn USA, not hot and not cold.  I wil try to repatch but the patch worked fine for a long time.  Thanks for the suggestions.

if re-patch doesnt work, do re-install and re-patch and if still doesnt work, re-install xp

Do you play any other games? Does anything similar happen?

I agree - reinstalling XP is a tad extreme. Try uninstalling BF2 and all your accounts; then reinstall BF2 with the original 77 series video drivers. Having the "latest" video drivers isnt always the best thing. If BF2 and all your other software and games work on the 77 drivers then there is no reason to update. Dont worry you can get your accounts back off the EA servers. If that doesnt work then you may have to reinstall BF2.........

jnick is on the best path here. Chances are you video card is just overheating. Play another game for a while or run 3DMark.

I have found my problem, some of my memory was bad.  I tried with each set, and with one it played fine(as fine as it can play with one gig), then the other and it locked up, so i am gona replace the bad memory.  Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions, it really helped me eleminate so things.  I found out it was BF2 when CS:source would lock up me too, so thanks again everyone.  What a great community we have here, thanks chuy much love to you and your creation.

I had a similar problem with onboard sound. Set the sound output to SW, that helped in my case.
