I just installed 2142 again, after a very long time (And several re-formats). I installed it from a DVD and made an image wich I mounted in Daemon tools and disabled my real DVD after the routine. I downloaded the patch (Three times, six hours - sigh), installed it and double-clicked the 2142 icon, only to find it unable to start, and display the classic "The application has caused an error and needs to be terminated..." screen.

Has the later patched fixed some uber blacklist thing that won't let the game start instead of showing no DVD message (Wich it does if I enable the real drives)? I haven't played this game since 1.0, so I don't have a clue about it. It's a legal version and CD-key, though, copied off a disc that was about to break.

Any clues?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
