Okay, so my N64 is starting to die on me.  I wanna still be able to play OOT and some other favorites. Yes this is legal, I have copies of all the games already that I bought.

If you have a gamecube, you can get OoT and MM (on a single disc) as well as some older Zelda games (I and II i think) if you're into that.  That's what I did when my mommy sold my 64 on eBay without telling me

You'll have to look around, there's some good ones on there, although I can't remember which ones. Some work and some don't, there's also NES and SNES, Gameboy, etc.. emulators on there if you want those too. The only thing I don't really like are the controls which you have to set up since you can't use an actual N64 controller.

Project 64 is good as is 1964. By the way, you know it's illegal unless you make the backup of the cartridge right? Downloading a copy is illegal even if you own the cartridge.

If there was a law telling you to jump off a bridge, would you do it? The illegality of backups is a fairly nebulous issue.

Just an FYI for the OP. It's not like I care for the "poor developers".

Yeah that's true. It's like abandonware. It's all pretty grey.

Nintendo doesn't care much for it because they like to repackage old cartridges for re-release on newer systems, which is like saying that iD's going to sell a Windows Vista edition of Wolfenstein 3D for $29, with a retooled menu and a couple of different sprites.

Whether or not a customer goes along with it is his business, as far as I'm concerned.

Wolf3d is the most win game ever though.

And already in my collection on floppy disks.

Say Wolf3d was for an old game system (the one you have no longer works), or on a cartridge that is worn out. iD re-releases a new operating system for around 80% of the original release price. You've already bought the license once. Do you:

a) buy it again
b) download an emulator for the old game system and a corresponding ROM

Mupen64 is good and supports net play. An older version of Project64 does as well but they lag bad.
