A question that has plagued me for years...

When a fly lands on a ceiling, does it execute a barrel roll or an inside loop?

Discuss.

I think an inside loop.  It's usually hard to tell because of the frantic nature of their flying.

Inside loop with a reverse immelman.
Deploy land gear and there you have it.

first, the fly buzzes up very close to the ceiling. Then it kicks its front legs up and over its head until they touch the ceiling. Once the fly has a good foothold with its front legs, it's a simple matter to somersault all the way over and plant its hind legs firmly on the ceiling too.

Neither, it flies straight up, sticks it's front legs to the ceiling then lifts it's fat ass up, crappy nature documentaries FTW.

It hovers, then sticks a few legs to the ceiling, then inverts itself to put the rest down.

I'm pretty sure they land on their back and roll over.

He's assuming it's flying parallel to the ceiling.
