Same setup here, am looking to get this card too.  A lot of new games will be using this technology, mid-as-well pick it up now.

Going to pick up the X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS card.

dont bother with a amazing sound card unless you have a 5.1+ speaker system that is good or you wont hear the difference.

Got 5.1 speakers
and some
Zalman 5.1 Theatre 6 headphones (3 speakers in each ear, not amazing but pretty good spacial awarness) for when one needs to be quieter.

Thinking about the Medusa 5.1 Headset with the mic built in too.

It's mainly to get ALL the sounds, instead of some being cut off for the others.

In Single player on Operation Clean Sweep, if a bot jumps into the F15 as pilot and I go as gunner I hear

"I GOT LOCK" then when firing "FOX ONE, FOX ONE" or "MISSILE RELEASED" - love that

But when online I only get the "I GOT LOCK"

Just thought a really good sound card might ad further experience to the gameplay

I got the X-Fi Platinum a couple of weeks ago.  I can't select Ultra-high, but  I haven't started tweaking hardcore yet or anything.  One of my complaints about the setup is I use the front-panel inputs, but the settings keep getting changed to the rear mic input when I start BF2.  It's not a huge thing, but I do have to switch out, start up the control panel, change the input, then switch back.  A little annoying.

I vote for don't bother to upgrade. I have an Audgy 2 ZS as well and while I can "only" run high, it sounds great, ESPECIALLY with the beta drivers with the new EAX support.

If you're not running those, you really should try them before considering an upgrade. It's a night and day difference.

Ugh, how can you stand playing on speakers? I mean, I have some top of the like Logitech speakers, but I still prefer headphones. You can hear so much more with headphones on IMO.

Well, I went and bought the music one, not too much of an improvement over my Audigy 2 ZS, still don't hear myself saying "ammo/first aid hear"

sounds nicer tho

Good card for music and stuff too

I have the x-fi extrememusic.  It sounds incredible with headphones or even a 2.1 speaker setup.  The x-ram version isn't worth it.  Just get the basic version since it has the exact same audio processor just minus the ram that doesn't do much anyways.  Also all versions let you select ultra high audio settings, you must set the mode though to gaming, no tweaking required.  Definitely worth it IMO.

Get the extreme music. The ONLY reason to get one of the others is if you want to connect more than one external audio device (eg I've got my guitar plugged into the line-in, so I can't have a microphone at the same time).

I've got the extreme music, I wasn't gonna pay all the extra just for the extra connections. My inspire 7900 speakers arn't quite up to the job tho....... it sounds better with headphones.

Another thing is i'm not sure how your headphone with work out with this card. The x-fi has this ABSOLUTELY AMAZING surround sound thingy for stereo headphones. It processes the sound so well, it really makes stuff sound like it's behind you and at all sorts of angles.  I do way better in bf2 with headphones because I can really use my ears to work out whats around me.

The x-ram has been proven to be totally useless until developers support it.
