Best storyline in a game in the last few years. The gameplay gets slightly repetitive but it remains fun through the whole game. The plot was very good and had alot of epic moments and the graphics were nice. The only thing I hated was those damn Nitro Splicers that throw grenades at you then run away like pussies. The ending was also great. This game deserved the GOTY award it got. Play the game. (and save the little sisters for an uber ending)

An über ending?.. Geez I'm sorry I liked the game but the ending... that was absolute SUCK. Especially the one you're talking about, the cheesy one.
Not even credits. I liked the game but it's rushed out to the shops it should have been perfectioned (or atleast a bit more polished)

It was a real disappointment. I expected a more open ended approach to levels which it didn't deliver. It also had very dull repetitive combat bar the Big Daddies. It looked so promising at the start but it failed to maintain that atmosphere constantly which was its biggest downfall. Also, the ending was perhaps the easiest one ever conceived. If they put me in a pit with even five bouncers, it would have been harder and yeah, I did save all the little sisters.

There is an "open ended" approach but its not as open ended as an RPG, you can explore the area at your own will rather than go in a straight line from objective to objective though. I thought the big daddies were easier than 10 spider splicers. The one thing that annoyed me was the lack of gun customization. They said you could put stuff on your guns that you found to improve them, but the only way to improve them was on a machine you rarely ever see. The final boss was a bit too easy though, he needed to be 3 times stronger. Half-Life 2 had much duller combat than this aside from the zombies.

It had a linear approach to levels while in a somewhat open ended environment. I found spider splicers the easiest enemies by the end of the game but I put that down to that I maxed out my research on them. I wouldn't say HL2's combat was as dull as BioShock's though. With HL2 you had the gravity gun which had never been done before along with vehicle sections.

Huge disappointment, it was nothing like they claimed it was. So damn linear, yet they claimed it wasnt. Lying to your customer generally isnt a great idea.

Umm, that's how it is in pretty much every FPS game last time I checked?

Not really. HL2, CoD/CoD2/CoD4, and many other FPS games I am forgetting are all extremely linear with absolutely no choice in where you go.

And with this game you have the plasmids which had never been done before along with the unique enviroment. HL2 aside from the epic zombie level was just killing 5 combine every 5 steps you took which got old after the 2nd time through. Episode 1 was the same, Episode 2 was much much less repetitive.

Bioshock had a great environment and a nice, (for want of a better word,) ecosystem. However like you said gameplay did get BLOODY repetitive. I for one got sick of being set a fairly easy task of finding a door and then being stopped by an explosion or collapse or something which meant I had to go all the way over the fucking rainbow to be able to find another way around. For one the Big Daddy part where you've got to try and become one of the brutes seemed needlessly complicated in an effort just to increase playtime. I liked the revelation of the twist which was done very well but that was probably the ONLY plot-related part done well. Everything else to me seemed a tad confused and didn't make much sense.
It was an interesting game, but I distinctly remember finishing it just because it was something that needed to be finished rather than actually  enjoying it and being immersed by it.

Bioshock is about as linear as it can get. Oooh, so you can explore an adjacent room to find two rounds of ammo and a bottle of vodka. Big deal; it's all been done before.

From this reply you either did not pay attention at all or you just decided to jump on the "zomg linear" bandwagon. If you actually played the game there was somewhat of an open ended feeling, you could go where you wanted and there were several rooms to explore for every "linear" path.

True that the environment was very unique, in fact I think that's what made it further disappointing. It had such a great premise but it didn't follow up on that, it didn't keep that same pace of great atmosphere. Plasmids aren't exactly the most unique thing to grace games though. It's just an upgrade or special power really. HL2 I wouldn't say got repetitive. When you're just into the swing of regular combat, they give you a gravity gun which is then used in a variety of environments. Episode 1 though I completely agree with you, after two years that combat had a lack-lustre feel to it and with no new guns or vehicles it definitely did grate a bit.

I'll have to stop you there for a second. CoD4 has a few missions where you get to choose how to get to your final destination. Take the one where you find Zakhiev(spelling). I've found him in three different locations when I played.

Being able to go back and forth from small map to small map doesn't make a game 'open-ended,' even when AI 'wanders' around like it does in BioShock.

Mafia, on the other hand...

Its was by no means a bad game but I found it a bit shallow, not at all what I expected. The story line was literally ripped from System Shock 2 down to the twist with Fontaine. Id still give it a 9 out of 10 though.

My taughts anyway!
