5 is disgusting. It's just a giant mess. It isn't designer friendly, the effects are just shit and the decoration is not nice at all.
It's between 6 and 8 - for the best graphically and aesthetically.
Meh, I dunno. I think 8 should win. It's subtle, its simple and its the contrasting colour of orange. Not a bad shot.

One and Four would cause problems on the HomPage.
With One the orange text would be difficult to see and with Four the Santa would obscure the recent posts thing.

As for was said about the lack of votes for 7 : imo, it's very well made but not as....appropriate/the colours don't seem to quite work.
