"Redefining shooters"?
What exactly is so different about Crysis?
Would you guys play it if you played a carebear who ran around in a cartoony looking forest killing Big Birds? (Keeping the exact same game play)
Honestly, I don't find it that fun at all.
..It looks fantastic though.
You haven't played Far Cry?CommieChipmunk wrote:

I thought Far Cry was a lot more fun, to be honest.
Running full speed, jumping across cliffs and clawing enemies to death was awesome.
All SP FPS games except UT (but that not really SP, just multi player against bots) suck... period.

Well, I dont run it on quad only, I dont run it in high settings only and imo it still looks better in medium than CoD4Sarrk wrote:

I'm right here, actually. And I agree, the storyline from, say, Metal Gear Solid beats Half-Life 2. BUT I must say that Episode 2 is the most fun, polished piece of single player fun I have had in recent years. You can tell that the creators put the player's experience first in every aspect. It's so much damn fun.
About Crysis:
-It looks horrible on any setting below 'High'.
- The MP is retarded.
- The SP is fun, yes, but CoD4 blew me the fuck away. I haven't played Crysis since.
But Crysis looks horrible on any setting below high?!?!? Come on man.
I agree with you on Crysis, I've grown to like it more than CoD4 (maybe the fact that I have it (CoD) on 360 sways me more to Crysis) recently.
But I disagree highly with you on Half-Life 2. HL2 is my favorite game of all time. I don't get how you can say it doesn't have a deep storyline...it goes back all the way to Black Mesa with Eli and Alyx and G-Man, who's just...well, nobody knows. Ep1 was a bit boring I agree, although that ending kicked ass. And Ep2 was MASSIVE fun. That strider level was one of the best I've ever played in any game to date.
Seriously though, with all the stuff about Eli's past, Alyx's past, G-Man himself, Barney and GORDON themselves, City 17, etc...You can't really say it's not a deep storyline.

Poseidon, I´ve not said HL2 and addons stories sucked, I just didnt like it as much as HL1 story
I find it funny that you Slayer say that HL1 have a good story line. Pardon me but it barely had any.
It was first in HL2 where HL1 actually got so much more of it's story told.
This is what you understand from the first HL story.
You are this scientist that is late for a thing. So you get a suit that you will use through the entire game. You are for some reason put in a crystal into a huge beam to test what happens. You have no idea on WHY you should do it.
Now that you have pushed it in bad things happens.
And BAM aliens invade the lab almost right away and for some reason you have to head to a certain place. You objectives? Sorry you don't have any other than stay alive and to find a way to some place.
You walk around killing aliens and seeing other people getting attacked by them and suddenly the Army is in and actually tries to kill you to. For what reason? Well back then I thought they tried to cover it up but I only think they where there to add more enemies to the scene. Also it was mainly in Opposing Force where you got to know more about the Marines.
So they just served as enemies for you.
Still no real storyline other than a great piece of action. :3 Which made HL so famus.
So you still need to go somewhere but have no idea why and when you get captured by the marines at some point in the game you actually end up getting closer to your objectives than before. Ironically actually.
I remember this lab where like 4 Scientist are being in and this huge thing spins around in the middle and I often asked myself. What the hell is that thing? It got 2-3 gigantic razor blade on that will kill you. But for what reason was that thing made?.....
Pretty much every scientist gets killed that you interact with and they barely tell you things other than that they are happy to see you and tell you to do a thing.
At another point in the game you launch an rocket into the air but I still wonder why you did it other than it made a nice graphical scene. HL2:Episode 2 rocket was far more impressive.
Now when you get closer to the end you have to head into their homeworld but god know why you should and you find your way forwad till you find this huge boss that you kill. But you really don't know why you should kill him or if it will do any good. Luckily it actually did a lot of good things because the aliens are your friends in HL2.
So the entire story mode in HL1 was almost completely ripped away and replaced with lots and lots action. I didn't mind as HL was a awesome game back then.
HL2 took it to the next level and made it possible for you to kill someone with a toilet. And overall it was so impressive. Episode 1 was only a continue on HL2 with few things added. But it was ok.
Episode 2 was so much more than Episode 1 and it's one of the best SP games this year imo. Right after Portal.
Crysis story is pretty bland compared to HL2 story. But it's better than HL1 story at least.
Story mode in Crysis.
Get the hostage.
But suprised Aliens take out your team one after one. (Kinda like Predator movie. :3)
Then you end up fighting aliens because they attack you.
You don't really know why the aliens attack you or why they are here in the first place.
But even then Crysis is so awesome.
I love the shotgun and Sniper as they are so powerfull and later on I pick the laser rifle because it's even more powerfull than sniper.
I have played it through once and played it twice to the point where you get the tank. Well first time the clock was to much and had to sleep and the second time my big brother came home so I couldn't hog his powerfull PC that runs it on high on every setting in DX9 mode and it goes on pretty smooth.
I will play it more when I get the chance as I'm using shotgun a lot more as it actually kills in 1-2 shots at close combat. The AI/physics/details and such are just awesome, even on low it still looks bloody good.
I have played COD4 but only played through it once more to try and find those intelligence thingies. After that I really havn't touched it. It was good and the gameplay was nice and the weapons to. But you couldn't sneak past people and awoid to fight them normally. Except for one mission where you NEED to awoid them.
Cod4 looked good but compared to Crysis, Crysis win right away even on low it was so good looking.
The only other game I really play other than Crysis now is Team Fortress 2 which rocks the socks of every other game out there for the moment.

Hm, I have to agree, partly though, and must say, good summary of HL1 story. But imo, the add-ons (well at least OF) brought some more light to HL1 story, way before HL² was released
But like I´ve often said, imo
But like I´ve often said, imo
Crysis FTW!
I played COD4 only for a while, SP was good, but MP... I miss tanks and helos
In Crysis I like to sneak around, Im not forced to kill them all but being a partisan is a good feeling You control how will you comply the mission, not AI and thats why I like it, you can go almost anywhere and anyhow.
But Im a bit scarry of aliens, you know, the first battle.

I was just impressed by the detail they put into the demo of Crysis. I played it once, then played it again killing everyone, then played it again demolishing all the buildings, then played it demolishing all buildings; destroying all vehicles; killing all enemies; and deforesting a large part of the playable portion of that island.
In short, it's damn fun.

I only have the demo of Crysis and CoD4, from what I saw CoD4 is just like CoD2 (which I didn't finish as it was to boring) but in a different setting. Crysis on the otherhand seemed like super-farcry. And I played FarCry many times over.

Well due being an HL fan I just couldn't awoid it. Well as it's your opinion I won't nagging about it.
DrunkFace: UT single player is only a TOURNAMENT nothing else the other games actually TRIED to get a story, except for UT2003, UT2004 and Serious Sam series.
Unreal Tournament 3 actually brings a story to the game and for some wierd reason I actually like it. Then end thou suggest for a new Unreal Tournament game pretty soon.
UT SP shouldn't be called single player but merely a tournament. UT3 thou could be called SP as it got a story.
What im getting at here is you are now a target for a Flame Missile, seeing how a lot of the forum body like FPSs of all types, be it single player or multi. also, if you hate SP FPSs, why the fuck are you posting in this forum.DrunkFace wrote:

I'm keeping Crysis on my bookshelf until 2009 when people can AFFORD PCs that can run Crysis on the highest settings (the way it was meant to be played) with acceptable performance. Get this - $1800 for a Triple-SLi system only runs it at 37FPS, Very High @ 1920x1200...
edit: That's $1800 just for the video cards, nevermind the quad core extreme

Sort of typical that COD 4 has a sticked "the worst thing about this game is" (mod leverage?), and there are no stickied topics in the Crysis area. Also, I thought we moved past the boring "Crysis is better, no, COD 4 is better, etc." topics.

Runs CoD4 at maximum settings at 90 fps steady though...
get the f*ck out of this thread Cryan! We already know that you P2, 256MB, FX5200 FX system cant pull Crysis. That´s not Crysis fault.Ryan wrote:

Well, this thread was meant for the people who actually like Crysis. Too bad the CoD4 armarda found its way in heresome_random_panda wrote:

It´s so damn strange that also people who play Crysis on average systems say the game is great, most of this people also played CoD4. Too sad, a hype can ruin the reputation of a game this much. Too sad, that most of the Crysis haters havent even played the retail but pop up everywhere with their useless statements.
what system specs?! When your PC is able to pull 90FPS all maxed in CoD4 in a high reso, then you´ll get at least 50-60FPS in Crysis high settings. Please dont try to bullshit us!!!PBAsydney wrote:

@Hurricane: man, I dont know what you´re talking about. I´ve played the game yesterday on a 8800GTS 512MB, AMD64 4000+, 4096MB RAM system to do some benchs and my personal review of the G92 GTS, in high settings 1200x960 with average 35FPS, such a system is 900€ and guess what, the game looks damn fine.
My big brother bought a rig for like 6000 to 7000 SEK and 1$ is like 6-8 SEK. He can run everything on High in DX9 mode as it somehow plays a lot smoother well there are still some areas that slow downs a bit but overall it run like butter. :3 Looks pretty kick ass to.
And that amount of money is easily gained if you have a JOB. If you waste 3000$ on a PC and is unable to play Crysis you are VERY VERY bad at picking good things to your PC.
I'd also give the PCs about 1-2 years from now on and after that you'll be able to crank up everything on high with the most recent gear. I also think RAM is a good thing in this game. 2 GB is good but I think 3-4 GB will make the game much smoother for most people. Just a hunch.

I'm on XP, so I play in DX9 mode, but I play at 1280x1024 with everything on high, except shaders and and post processing, which are on medium. I average in the 50s and 60s with occasional dips into the 30s when shit hits the fan.
