Bf2 is just about in a genre of its own.
Didn't play too much CS, but I would say CoD4 has a lot more similarities with it than Bf2. However, it also has things within it that blows CS away, IMO. But what can you say, CS is considered ancient compared to CoD4. If CoD4 didn't improve upon CS (or even other CoDs), what would be the point of it.
When it comes to theme, CoD4's single player is awesome. Multiplay seems nothing more than a fragfest to me. Mind you, I don't mind occasional fragfests, but it would get boring to me if I played CoD4 multiplay for the same amount of time as I've played Bf2. I like CoD4, but Bf2 (followed up with PR) will always stick out as a game that I'll always remember and look back on.

Search and Destroy reminds me my days of AA:SF.. Good time BAM! HAHA YOU CANT PLAY 4 ANOTHER HALF HOUR!! lolUK|Hooligan wrote:
Cant compare COD4 to BF2, but is similar to CS in a way, and more so when playing S&D. There is no disappointment with it as i knew what to expect which is a very good game.

Except I said "for" instead of "4", and put an apostrophe between the C and T in "can't".
I agree with this. CoD4 is very good at what it tries to do, however doesn't try to do as much, and that is why I like BF2 more.SharkyMcshark wrote:
By depth I meant that there was a lot of diverse things you could do, or gameplay styles you can try out (well, more than COD4 anyway). COD4 has twitch play. Thats it. The maps are too small to snipe, there are no vehicles, and the entire thing just boils down to 'kill them baddies' (occasionally while standing in a particular place). These aren't criticisms at all, just statements of fact. And as far as twitch shooters go it's very entertaining, what with all the different weapons, upgrades, and skins to unlock, and all those nifty little challenges. But again, it boils down to a twitch shooter.
BF2 comparatively offers more multiplayer wise. No, it isn't a helicopter, jet or tank sim. No, it isn't realistic in the slightest. But it IS diverse. Fly a jet, pilot chopper, snipe, go for the QC battles, armour whore, jihad jeep, go the brick (flying a transport chopper laden with c4 into things).... the possibilities stretch on. If taken individually, its components would be shit, but it gels together so well as a whole. What separates BF2 from the crowd at the end of the day is its longevity due to its variety in game play (hey, 20+ Internode servers, and 20+ Gamearena servers, most of which are regularly used, is symptomatic of a game that isn't dead).
With that said, COD4 single player KICKS ass. As a complete package it probably offers the same as BF2. But if we're looking at multiplayer, COD4 doesn't do enough to stand out from the crowd in the long term (I think anyway).
Similar to what Flecco said, BF2 has for me over the past 2 and a half years been filled with laughs, and good times with mates (both internet and real life). COD4 hasn;t, and I dont think it has the potential to either. I mean honestly, where else would you get the experience of a bridge above you exploding, only for you to look up and see an AA Mobile plummeting towarad you face, only for it to land on you AND award the driver a kill! *wishes he had a FRAPS of that particular incident*
tbh your a bit of a nub. This is just an revamped version of cod2. Hence why ur a nub... (you didnt realise that)

I definaltey don't think it is anything like bf2 in terms of gameplay.
playing cod4 ruins my cs skills for about an hour, and vice versa
so they are not too similar in gameplay

CS is old, but it's the original, and BF2 is more than a simple FPS. It envolves a lot of things COD4 doesn't. BF2 is IMO the best PC game ever.Ruckel wrote:
beats bf2 and cs, no doubt
You've obviously only played public CS cos the strats and teamwork involved in competitive play are insanely important and well thought out tbh.sergeriver wrote:
After playing the singleplayer I was very happy. It was the best singleplayer ever. After playing multiplayer I feel this game seems more like an improved CS. I mean there's little strategy involved. There's no real teamwork, in fact it has nothing to do with BF2 I'm a bit disappointed, although I'm a big fan of CS, I was expecting an improved BF2and if you ask me BF2 is far better than this game. What do you think?
Back to the point, I think CoD4 is in a way what BF2 should have been on the inf only front and again the competitive scene is gonna be huge with a lot of people moving over from Source to CoD4. The CoD engine is far better than the BF one too.
I'd say Quake 3.Ashlite wrote:

Bf2 WAS the best game ever made, now its shit due to EA's crybaby welfare patches. COD4 is is a pretty cool game, although all you really have to do to be good at it is rank up high and get the run-10-people-over-in-5-seconds guns like the P90 with double tap. Ive played for about 10 hours (got COD4 three days ago) and ive already got the hang of it, im almost always in the top 3 on my team or on the server, its not that hard to get good at. I love COD4, but i cant see myself playing it as much as i played Bf2.
I'd say wtfh have you even played cod2?sergeriver wrote:

+1. I like certain aspects of cod4, but they are different games. Throw COD4 graphics and custom kit abilities, and I think then you have a great successor to bf2.sergeriver wrote:

Bf1942 > Bf2
BF2 and CoD4 can't even be compared to eachother. One is a vast, open team-based shooter with vehicles and aircraft, one is a direct, in your face shooter with almost no teamplay involved, at least compared to BF2.
BF2 has a longer lasting appeal. CoD4 will probably die out this time next year.

I'd second the chilling out part. What does gameplay have to do with it being a CoD2 clone? Yes, I agree that it is but all it's changing is comparing Cod2/4 to BF2 and CSS.sergeriver wrote:

I don't think they can, the style is different in both, but they have similar roots of shooting.. stuff.
CoD4 is basically CS with bigger maps, custom weapons, kits, and no money
its nothing like bf2
but i havent played it
yet

The lack of bolt action rifles being whored, along with the toning down of the shotty strength leads me to say, along with perks, that it is not a revamped CoD2. The changes to pacing in the gameplay are enough to show that.Defiance wrote:

And fuck up, Quake 3 was far more epic in it's time than CoD4 is.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
Vilham, being a prick as he always is, was talking of a revamped Cod2 and I was talking about how the game feels, and it seems to have a very similar engine than Quake. That's what I say. I don't compare it with Quake 3. And yes, it's an improved CS. The only difference is CS lasted for 9 years, and this won't.Defiance wrote:

CoD was based on the Quake3 engine, heavily modified. Since then they've been running the same engine with updates.
