Some of us must wait for the pretense of 'christmas' to warrant expenditures for games. I'll be playing this on the 360 (collective shudder, I know), but what do I need to avoid/look out for, in terms of the stupid things people do, things to avoid, etc? (Need I use the cliche, "How to NOT look like a noob") Thanks.
Don't use GL.
This is a guide I wrote for my clan and has just been ported from our forums and I cbf altering any of it.
Know where your enemy are!- Just like BF2 knowing where your enemy is is essential to you staying alive and completing a misson. Knowing where your enemy is will allow you to pre fire or wall your him and give you a massive advantage.
There are several ways of doing this:
-Listen: for gun fire and then check your map to see if there are friendlies where the fire came from. If there aren't then be alert for an enemy coming from that direction.
-Use your map: enemies fireing without a silencer will show up on your map. if you see an enemy appear make sure you keep a tab on them and listen for their movments.
-Watch for gun fire: you can see lines of fire so again make sure that you keep a tab on areas you see fire coming from.
Silence!- Counteract the last point. If you dont have to make noise don't! Crouching will enable you to move silently although you will still make noise if you jump over a ledge or something similar.
When selecting weapons always equip a silencer as you can take down enemies without alerting their team to you presence.
When in a war DONT SPAM TS! if you die hold you comments for after the round or type them over team chat.
Grenades- Grenades are great for clearing out small rooms and blowing up cars that enemies may be hiding behind. There will be spots on maps where you can use grenades to slow down an enemies advance or protect a bomb site of cap point.
Also note that in CoD 4 you can "cook" nades before you throw them. Hold down your grenade button watch your crosshair pulse. The grenade explodes after 4 pulses so make sure you throw it in time. A cooked grendae is useful if there is an enemy close by behind cover as once you throw it at them they can't hurl it back.
Special Grenades- There are 3 Special grenades:
Smoke: Use to cove movments and when someone is planting at a bomb site.
Flash: Use these when entering a room or rushing an enemy. If you get them properly the enemy wont be able to hear, see of move quickley.
Stun: Havent used these yet, will update later.
Knife- Knives in CoD4 are deadly! they are silent, kill in one hit and have a fairly large range for a melee weapon. Bind you knife button to something you can get to quickley such as the middle mouse button. The knife is best used when you meet an enemy as they walk through a door.
Perks
I dont think many ladders wll use these although they will give you 1 or 2 as a default. Most comonly it will be deep impact. This perk alows you to shoot through concrete walls and more solid objects.
General tips
Shoot through walls: If you know you enemy is behind a wall of in a room spray the wall where you think they are. You may not kill them but you will make them panick.
Use Crosshairs: Try to use these instead of iron sights when fighting one on one at close range as it allow you to aim better and move around alot more. Use your iron sights when walling or firing at a distant target. If you have the steady aim perk then your first shot will always hit the center of your cross hair.
Movement: if you come up against someone one on one dont just stand there and fire! crouch, prone strafe and jump. The more you move the more likley you are to win the fight.

I read, that you want it on the PC as well. May I know why?FatherTed wrote:

Even when you unlock the ACOG scope for weapons, stick with the red dot sight.
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.
I didn't say i had a 360. I merely played it at a friends.r'Eeee wrote:

I'd say basically the best tips for this game are watch out for grenades, and try to get an idea of where an enemy is by looking around, listening for gunfire, and using your map rather than just charging around blindly looking for bad guys.
+1 I would rather my iron sights thanan ACOG scope.KILLSWITCH wrote:

and dont stand still in doorways, it makes people hate you >.< same with proning on stairways...

thanks thus far; now complete the analogies--
the BF2 G36E is the CoD4 ______
the point-whoring map is Karkand, in CoD4 it is ______
the 'sniping' map is Wake/Kubra/Oman, in CoD4 it is ______
the best overall map _________
is teamwork even in most CoD4 players' vocabulary?

*sigh* you do know that the sway on the acog is actually a visual thing, if you aim straight and ignore the sway that it fires normally?Invaderzim wrote:

the point-whoring map is Karkand, in CoD4 it is i don't think there is any, but shipment or vacant.
the 'sniping' map is Wake/Kubra/Oman, in CoD4 it is i vote pipeline?
the best overall map IMO backlot or strike.
is teamwork even in most CoD4 players' vocabulary? no. but it should be.

Advice for new players?
Play S&D servers, you get loads more points than the others so you can unlock stuff faster.

Whoever mentioned doorways was spot on, crouching in doorways makes it impossible for anyone else to get through them, unless FF is on then out comes your knife!!
Yes I know this. I just don't like the tunnel vision which you get from using the ACOG scope, it also takes longer to 'ready' the weapon you are using, in my opinion the red dot is better suited to almost every situation.Ashlite wrote:

if you play shipment or wet work.... please dont nade spam, it pisses people off.
no guns seem to be way overbalanced/stronger yet, the m60 is pretty acurate and does good damage though, but i havnt had a problem with itR0lyP0ly wrote:

point whoring map= shipment(kind of) or showdown? (i think thats what its called) and maybe vacant
sniping map= sniping sucks in CoD4, snipers seem to have shit rego and the maps are to small and the rifles are to weak, but overgrown, pipeline and wet work are ok
best map= im a big fan of overgrown, but crash is pretty good same with strike
teamwork= kind of not yet though, but i think eventually it will be more of a teamwork game
also like ashlite said the sway in the ACOG is shit and i think its the same with snipers (IW are working on this though, or atleast trying to find out whats causing it) as right now snipers and ACOG scopes are shit

Until you learn the maps, you can press "esc" to get to the menu and there check out the map.
Also kills with a certain weapon give you equipment for that weapon (silencer, red-dot, ACOG). Total points get you perks and new weapons.
Best thing to do is to combine TeamDeathmetch where you get loads of kill (to improve weapons) and Hardcore S&D where you get most points (if you are good over 2000 per round) to get perks and new weapons.
After couple of hours you will have enough "stuff" not to be in a disadvantage.

I've only been playing for 9 hours so far, but the thing I have found most useful is getting used to zooming in immediately in almost every situation, and keeping one finger on the V in case I get into "making out" range with somebody.
Oh and the ability to lean is there for a reason, so use it.
Especially if you're playing Hardcore mode.

I'd say for points make sure you play Headquarters mode. You get points even if you're dead.
