AGP = Accelerated Graphics Port (as opposed to PCI-E peripheral component interconnect - enhanced or something like that), or the older video cards known simply as PCI.

AGP is a type of bus that is used for graphics.  AGP is faster than PCI, with PCI-E supposedly being an up-and-comer that will surpass AGP.  A faster AGP card can actually help your computer work faster, becasue it takes less load off the CPU from having to deal with video-related tasks, and deals with them itself.  Keeping it set to 8x should keep keep more load on the video card rather than the CPU, keeping your computer running faster.

I know a bit about computers, but my info might be off - if anyone knows better, feel free to correct me.
