There are days when I am not proud to be an American, where my government has taken actions I personally wouldn't agree with, but there is not much I can do. Regardless of who you vote for, you don't have much of a say on their actual policy. I am sick of people blaming those that voted for Bush for everything he has done in office. That's the same as blaming every German for the actions of Hitler and the Nazi party. Worx, do you want us all to believe that you and your ancestry are personally responsable for the Holocaust?
If all of you truely want to affect change, stop bitching about things on an internet forum and take action. Trying to change things through insults is a poor and inefficient tactic.
In the meantime, I am going to enjoy my cheesburger, car, and the exceptionally high standard of living my family and country have given me.

Having said that, if someone attacks my country, I'll probably defend it, that's human nature. You will probably do the same. It is the manner in which we defend it that seems to be problematic here. Too often a silly accusation against the US (or any other country) is met with, "Oh yeah? Well your country licks balls!" or something. That just escalates the poor debate practices here.
I like to think I can draw attention to deficiencies in a country without making an ad hominem attack on that country, or disliking it at all. I know it is possible, because when talking with other Americans I talk about our problems all the time - and I am very fond of my country. But, because of human nature (as noted above) one has to be a little diplomatic when talking about other countries - people are sensitive when they are criticized by those the percieve to be outsiders.
Let's ignore the idiots who are posting, "Your country sucks donkey cock!" and try to elevate the level of debate here (that being said, there are some excellent posts between the idiots)

dresden was not chosen for psycological impact germany was already starting to fall quickly at this point, there was no need to cut into the morale of the german civilian population.
