In southern Germany and Austria it is quite common to write names without the "e" infront of the lasting "r". So "Baur" and "Bauer" (= farmer) are the same and are pronounced identically in most areas here.

Bore - IMO, if it was written 'bauer' then it would be pronounced 'bower'
