Snipers are useless.
Lambert+RDX+Cloak is my favortie combo.
Besides the APM the whole right tree is a waste of unlock points.

Love my Lambert, it`s name is "Pure Evil" and with the combo RDX and APM it`s one of the best in the game, allthough after i unlocked my rockets for the Voss i`m not sure anymore

lets see, the Zeller can snipe at some serious range, and can blow up enemy assets such as APMs, Med and Ammo hubs, Shields, Sentry Guns, Drones...
im not much for sniping... i tend to play more aggro (and yea get myself killed alot) but i love the Zeller much more than the Lambert which i find to be undependable. if i play recon my gun of choice would be the Zeller for its versatility, but i will be right there with the squad generally unless we are pinned, and i use the pistols ALOT.
err, my least favorite items in the Recon package are the camo and the RDX. the camo i find generally useless to carry around since im not much of a sneaky backstabber... the RDX is cool for what its meant for but i get sick of:
a) players who rush the commander assets and generally wreak havoc instead of playing tactical and trying to earn some points
b) players on no-FF servers who think RDX is a primary weapon

Snipers ain't really THAT useless. Well only if the user is a crappy one. Because they can easily eliminate a lot of other players without big problems.
Anyway I love almost everything with Recon kit.
RDX = Blow things up. :3
APM mine = Can easily be whored with the help of a Support friend. :3
Cloak thingy = Now you can actually blend in with the enviorment.
zoom adaptment = Lovely thing that just gives me more headshots.
Lamber = A good spray weapon in close combat. :3
Zeller = Meh I'll like the base snipers more. Even thou if this one can blow up RDX and APM.

On Camp Gibraltar I like to use the Active Camo to sneak behind enemy lines and drop a beacon. This is especially useful when there is an impasse between two flags. Ever since DICE upgraded the Camo it is now very useful.
I´m not crazy about recon i prefered sniping in BF2 allot more then i now do in 2142 can´t really say why. At the time i only use recon for Titandefending/attacking or if i want to sneak through in a citymap.
only thing i can think good of it is the carbine, and even it sucks, imo, i wish i didnt unlock that tree......

I really don't like any gun in the game...but lambert is one of the better ones.

I rather prefer Assault and Engineer most of the time. But the Morretti and Park are nice.
Ok, i know my 2142 stats, and my BF2 stats aren't very good, but thats just due to time played in 2142. i hve 112 kills with the zeller, and 120 ish on each of other 2 base snipers. I got those 112 zellers kills in half of the time compared to the other snipers. I get head shots almost every kill. I have around 3.00 K/D ratio with sniper rifles.
Also, the APMs are amazing, you put one down, and you are bound to get a kill with them.

I am a vehicle whore and medic whore from BF2 so I unlocked all of the Engy and Assault kits first, plus nades, sprint and stamina. Now that I have unlocked APMs, Active Camo, RDX and the Lambert, I find myself mostly using Recon when I am infantry, certainly on city maps and when assaulting the Titan. I suck at sniping so I would never choose recon normally, but now with the Lambert I love it. I love the camo, and now that I can actually blow up Titan components I really appreciate that part of the game alot more. I still vehicle whore the gunship mostly, but my medic whoring has dropped immensely.
The Zeller rapes but its only good if you are commanding. But otherwise the kit is trash. The lambert is the true noob gun. Not the Voss.
