BF2S Forums Best video card for a 250w power supply

With 250W? I say he is screwed. I don't know of anything after the Radeon 9600 series that will run on anything less than a 350W. Perhaps going back to the 9550 area you could get away with 300W.

You say that his Dell MUST have the 250W power supply? Is it because it's rivoted in or is it because the thing just won't start with anything else? The option you have is to try out another power supply from another computer. Plug it into the motherboard and see if it even works. If so and if you can't remove the PSU from the Case then you could always set the PSU on top of the case and just run the wires into the case to power things. It's ghetto but it would work.

If that can work then 9800 Pro are going for $100 to $130. Might be a decent work around. Of course with a computer that old (If he is still using a 250W that's pretty old) then it might not be worth it doing all this as it would run like crap anyways and would have to be on all LOW settings not Medium.

I say save his money for a bit longer and instead do a major upgrade. I think he would be happier in the long run.

250w psu will only support onboard graphics or a really lame card your m8 is screwed tell him to but a nice new case that comes witha powerful psu instead of going out to buy a psu to stick in his standered case

Tell him to save up and throw away his Dell. Dell are not the best choice when it comes to gaming pcs.
He should be able to get a 1/2 decent rig for about AUD$1000

It also depends what else you run with it.

I have a 480W power supply, 2 UV cold cathode tubes (because Im a tool), 5 case fans,  dvd burner, cd-rw/dvd combo drive, ati radeon x800 pro, floppy disk drive, and a PCI-USB card which im sure uses a little bit of power.

For your problem, I say take your Dell, and carry it to the top of a large building.  Then, throw it off the top, as you've bought apparently a terrible Dell system (probably one of those crappy 399 deals you seeon TV) and expect to play games like BF2 on it.

If you're going to bother with a good gaming computer, build one yourself - guaranteed you'll save at LEAST 100 bucks, you'll know the ins and outs of your computer better, and you can have what you want what not what you don't.
