Cookies don't = passwords with firefox.

Click on the extras menu (second one from the right - next to help) and than select something like "delete private data" (or just press CTLR+SHIFT+DEL). You will than get a window where you can select/deselect cookies, search history, passwords, cache, download history, web history etc. Deselect every thing except cookies and you wont loose any passwords.
