I just borrowed this game a friend and had high hopes for it.  However after just a few hours I am very let down.
Here's why:
All of my units are mentally challenged.  I can barely win a battle if ever even if I have numerically and technologically superior units.  If I sent 40 Chained Knights against 60 Peasant Archers, the archers would slaughter my calvary.  WHAT THE HELL!?  Almost every battle I fight something unbalanced like this happens.  I can't go more than a few dozen turns without being overrun. I'm getting incredibly frustrated. So frustrated I might go play 2142...
Anybody got any tips for what to do? (Game is set on Med. and I've playing England).

Sounds like something is wrong, if archers slaughter cavalry like that.
(I have Rome TW, and have no problems)

France, spain, and venice FTW. Have you upgradded to the lastet patch it helps a little with some bugs.

I have Rome.  It was awesome.  This is just depressing.

The game is totally bugged out. I tried it for a while and it was awesome until I actually saw a few battles.

Well dude your obviously doing something wrong, because i win 95% of my battles with my spear milita, im at war with everyone bar poland and im kicking their ass.

The only thing i can think of is your not listening to the voice tips from the help thing, he says dont put your cavalry against the front of a enemy unit, try to flank or attack from its rear, and always do hit and runs.

Well I have Rome and Medieval 2... Rome is much easier IMO and if you're used to Rome, Medieval does get on your nerves. It's harder to take out the shitty units (In Rome you could just rip apart peasants with your cavalry; on Medieval they will seem like much harder work) .

So, yeah update to newest patch, and then maybe just try on easy instead of medium

Did you DL patch 1.2? It's a big DL, but if you're going to be playing the game for a while, it's worth it. It fixes numerous bugs and tries to solve the problems you mentioned. I have experienced a fraction of what you have, but 1.2 does an excellent job with the cavalry to, so I'd recommend that.

They only bug I have ever found is that when I upgrade to cannon towers they don't show up and my towers shoot ballistas!

So far I own all of: Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, Poland, Spain, Noth Africa, Scicily, Rhodes, Milan, Germany, Egypt, Hungary and about to finish off the Mongols.

Soon I will declare war on Byzantium to control Constantinople and may even massacre the Turkish.

Let the Pops divine light shine on England! Longbowmen regin supreme!
