This may be old news to some of you, but I just heard about this. Oblivion has had its rating changed to M.

Another reason for changing the rating from T to M is the existence of a locked-out art file on the PC version which includes graphics for topless female characters. This content is only unlockable by using a third-party mod, but the fact that the content itself exists on the DVD is enough to warrant the change. If any of this sounds familiar to you, it's because Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas went through a similar ordeal with the Hot Coffee mod.

"graphics for topless female characters"

This is a joke. Somewhere in your oblivion data folder, there is a textureless, vague resemblance of boobs used to model female bodies in oblivion (all characters wear underwear, which is in the actual texture used for the bodies, so there is no actual nudity)

Oblivion is being pulled off the shelves in several stores, and bethesda have to give their masterpiece an M rating, because.. well, they made a game? Last time I checked, breasts are quite easy to see, even clothed. So, the modellers create a reference and then add the few polygons of cloth inbetween. Texture that, and you're done. But because Oblivion is so moddable, you can actually access all the base models. Forget all the  realistic nude models that you can download (along with appropriate 'clothing', even), just ban the game!

Whoever is responsible for this deserves to be sparta'd. This is truly madness. Is every game that can be modded going to be rated M?

omg so your saying... you saying that someone made a mod that retextured the clothes on the breast area of the model to resemble skin?? And they're saying this is the fault of the game makers by allowing this?? Dumb mother fuckers

Yea this uh happened like a few months after it was released. Years ago. Its retarded though, people who rate games should be shot if they re rate games because someone made a mod to show nudity. Guess what, oblivion has nudity, so does my pants. Why are people so offended by skin? Especially in a video game to say the least.

Shouldn't Barbies be rated M because you can mod them and see their nipple-less titties?

But you can't film poor sods pleasuring themselves to a Barbie's automated dance. At least Barbies don't have that technology yet.

This happened nearly a year ago. My first 360 game was Oblivion, and when I bought it (June), the wrapper had an M overprinted the T.

To be fair, skimpy clothing under certain circumstances can result in an R rating for films.

Yeah, this is an old mod.

But check this one out: http://jorgeoscuro.googlepages.com/

I decided to make this mod after realizing that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was largely based on a system of "leveled" gameplay, whose function resulted in a contrived experience of immersion and "realism" that, in my view, detracted from the potential enjoyment of such a beautiful and massive RPG. Creating, balancing, and testing the needed changes was a time-consuming task, but the result is a more rewarding experience that I hope also helps those of you that prefer a more static game world than what it was offered upon release.

The first major issue is that of linearity of challenge. In Oblivion, quests and combat encounters are "leveled" relative to the level of the player's character. This concept, while offering some good gameplay elements (freedom of choice, gentle learning curve, etc.) was implemented too indiscriminately. The sense of accomplishment in improving one's avatar suffers because the world is constantly changing to meet a pre-designed level of challenge. Also, "realism" and "immersion" disappear when the player notices glitches in the continuity of the world (Town guards so high in level that one wonders why they need a "hero" after all; lowly creatures that can suddenly give High-Chancellor Ocato a senseless beating, etc.)

The goal of this mod is to increase the overall challenge of the game, to increase the chances of the unexpected to happen, to reduce the flaws that hurt the "realism-factor" of the "leveled" system, to tweak item rarity and presence in the world, to add some new content and, lastly, to change some of the variables of the game system to balance its gameplay.
