Have their been a lot of WW2 shooters done in the last 5 years?  Yeah... but I'd like to see a number on the amount of modern combat crap thats been made in the past 20 years.  Just because theres been a surge of popularity regarding WW2 and WW2 games doesnt mean the genre is dead.

I see people saying "OMG, not ANOTHER WW2 FPS.  Lets go play Halo and Gears of War".  Yeah, okay.  You diss the WW2 genre, and go back to playing one of the oldest genres ever in popular culture.  Sci-fi.  Aliens vs. Humans.  If that isnt overused, I dont know what the hell is.

I guess what my point really is, genres dont determine the quality of the game.  Half the people complaining about the WW2 genre never played MoHAA, or CoD1, or BF 1942.  Half of them played Halo and cheap spinoff games, and then when CoD2 caught on, they played it for 2 weeks and decided the genre was overused because there happens to be some other WW2 games coming out as well.  PLEASE, STOP.  No one is forcing you to play WW2 shooters.  In fact, if youre not into WW2, you probably wont even come close to enjoying the game as much as those of us who are actually interested in the history.

Yeah, Hour of Victory, Medal of Honor Airborne, and Brothers in Arms Hells Highway are coming out this year.  But do you know what?  Im going to keep buying them, because I like the genre.  STFU about how its been overused.  Have their been lots of cheap attempts from other companies to be as good as MOH, BIA, or CoD?  Yes, but dont blame the genre for being popular.  Go back to playing something more "original", like going after terrorists with an MP5 or killing locusts with a shotgun.  LMFAO

I don't really know why I find WW2 games uninteresting. I guess the little history nerd/buff section of me just isn't appealed to by using non-modern weapons and vehicles.

Don't get me wrong, World War II games are good; they just don't appeal to me like modern combat-oriented ones.

The genre is great!! WWII is a fun genre to get stuck into! I was stuck into it bigtime when MOH and COD came out!!

Although the genre has a "been there done that feel" to it these days. . . .

I think the new COD 4: modern warfare game is going to BIGTIME!! Its a great switch to a genre not really explored yet. . . i.e. the modern warfare subject!

Exactly, and thats perfectly ok.  Its the people who feel they need to tell the world how much the ww2 genre has been overdone.

Iwould like to see more WWII games.  They are getting progressively better.  It is a good way to track how computer games change/improve over time.  This is because WWII is one of the few themes in video games that does not change over time.

At the same time, I'm happy when talent that goes into spamming forth CoD games finally decides to change time periods for once. I love WW2 games, but I have around two-dozen titles.

I agree, but I just wish they weren't all practically an on a track, straight foreward, linear game based on some actuall WWII event through the eyes of either American, British, or Russian soldiers.  Id like to see something different done with the creative license, which seems to be whats finally happening with games like Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.

edit: spelling

WWII is great for games, but it does get a bit tiring. Whereas with each year we get advancements in technology that let things like laser-guided airstrikes destroy entire buildings, WWII is still gonna be the same thing year after year. It's a classic genre, and I'm surprised that the MOH series can go so long.

That what I've wanted for a while, but developers are probably scared shitless of the guaranteed lash back of religious organizations and politicians, but there's definently ways around that.

Agreed I love all the games you mention there and others, I will always look out especially for games set in WWII. Mainly because I like history, so much so that I did a degree in it, and my dissertation was on Dunkirk (my grandfather is a Dunkirk Veteran).
So I say give me more WWII games especially if they are as good as COD, BIA and Coh.

I love the WW2 games, always have, but I also love Sci-fi,and for me Sci-Fi isnt done enough, to few games nowadays go for sci-fi, 80% go either WW2/Modern or fantasy.  There not many good Sci-Fi shooters, but plently of great WW2 ones, such as MoHAA, my favorite game from the series, still got it installed

I personally think they should put out a game showing the same events from the different viewpoints of both sides. They'd still get the attacks from religious organizations and such, but I think that could be helped slightly by just putting something on the box and in the first cut scene that basically says, "we don't support or encourage what Nazi Germany did, but we are providing you with what it would have been like to be on their side of the war"

It would just be nice to kill something other than the stereotype Nazi with a large swastika on their arm and of course yelling loudly in German almost constantly. It just gets tiring after awhile

Best WWII game Ever was MOH Allied Assault.  I still play it often.  For its time, the graphics were unbelieveable, they character AI was intelligent and interactive, and the missions were in depth and well scripted.  MOH:AA is easily on myt op ten games of all time.  Can wait for airborne either

You have to be pissing me. That was SUCH a crap game compared with CoD.

As to the OP, there are so many WWII games now, it just seems some developers see wwii to get some quick money.

They should do games showing the German side and the Resistance (from all over Europe).

Of course in their own language, I don't find it normal that Russians speak English in CoD.

Not aware of anyone saying such things?

I would say people just like good games.

Some don't like historical, some don't like futuristic, but I would say most just like a game that is good!
