Hello,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm looking to go out and buy a good strategy game for my wife and I to play. The only trouble is, she has a PowerBook G4, which limits her games to ones playable on a Mac.  Years ago we used to play Age of Empires II against each other (when she had a PC).  Anyone have this type of setup? Any games that you enjoy playing against your spouse/girlfriend? Or should I just go out and buy Age of Empires II for the mac and relive the glory days of 2002?

AoE2 is God.  I totally want them to remake it just with better graphics.

I just tried out AoE3 and the demo was pretty fun. Maybe we'll retry AoE2.  From what I could see, Caesar IV is a PC only game.  Hopefully the 1.2 million Macs that have sold this past quarter will encourage the game publishers (yeah right!).

RE: OP

I'd honestly suggest buying a midline PC for maximum compatibility over a broader spectrum of strategy games. It's less frustrating than trying to play PC-Mac over the network.

Some people would suggest Age of Empires III for an AoE II player, but I think AoE II was a better product. My recommendations are:

Age of Mythology
Warhammer 40K Dawn of War Gold / Dark Crusade
Warcraft III
Battle for Middle Earth II (if you guys are ME fans)
Company of Heroes

Check out the demos first, and try her on other genres as well.

Try civilization IV. Not sure if it's for macs, but it's great.

There is AOE2 and the Star Wars counterpart made with the same engine called "Galactic Battlegrounds".

She should be able to get a pc emulator like Virtual PC or somethingrather and then be able to play pretty much anything a pc has to offer - I've seen a high end G5 run BF2 on full graphics no problem.

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/v … =virtualpc

not cheap but open up the whole gaming world....

Oh apparently Virtual PC sucks for bf2 he was running a program called Bootcamp, same idea though.

She has a G4 Pbook, so it won't work...

Civ 4 is just about the only recent one that i can think of. The others are Quake 4 and CoD2 which are available in PC and Mac Format separately.

The only game that is shipped with both formats in one DVD is the Football Manager series (bless them!).
