I agree whole heartedly. Medieval 3 would be sweet.
But first offs, I think they need to go into other places. Like China, or personally, the ancient Mediterranean basin. (Egypt, Hittites, Assyrians, etc).

Mmm. As I said, I grew up playing the two. I have a very dim memory of Doom because I played it on my Dad's pc at his work when I was about five. Had Quake on our home pc.

I knew about the bickering at id, one of their lead designers quit over it didn't he? Read it in an article a few months back where they interviewed him. Haha, Quake was going to be an RPG at one stage?!!!?!??!

Quake still has better monsters, better setting, better artistic direction and a better engine.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

I don't like gore shooters like that. Battlefield 2 is more my style, with tons of maps and weaponry, and lots of clod hoppers to pwn online.
If only more shooters adopted the battlefield type approach.

Quake had higher detail because computers were more capable of running something like it, and id had more money. As to artistic direction, I would say that they were lazy to some extent. The game was brown (sometimes red-brown, sometimes blue-brown, sometimes green-brown...but still brown) all the way through. Not to say that I didn't play the shit out of it anyway. Doom, on the other hand, had many colors and has flashier textures...I mean, it even had marquees of trapped souls on some walls. People still play the heck out of it online.

You can't really compare the quality of two different games by date alone. If you can do more tech, then you're probably going to look better. For example, Prey's graphics kick the shit out of Super Mario World, but I like playing SMW more. And if you do have a dim memory of Doom, then you can't exactly compare it to anything else with any level of accuracy. Tell you what: grab the shareware version and a copy of ZDaemon, which enables online play and increases max resolution. Play through at least once, then come back.

Umm...  Battlefield 3.  Fully equipped with DX10 graphics, a plethora of armaments and additions to each weapon (such as silencers, scopes, AP rounds, etc.)  Still the modern time period, but a total remake of BF2.  Make kits completely customizable (as in different levels of armor have different slots for weapons, similar to PlanetSide).  Huge maps too.

Sounds like Frontlines: Fuel of War doesn't it?
I would LOVE that. Unfortunately I don’t think it will happen too soon….

Yea, MOH in WWII is getting boring. With DX10, so you can see the mud stick to every single thing, the detail in the trees, the dense bush etc.

C&C Generals 3, with bigger maps with fully usable aircraft carriers and ships...WHICH you could actually order and build.
Meh. They wont do that for a while. They gotta fix up C&C3, plus they might to an expansion pack for it too. And still, people hate it, but I love it too.

If youre talking about PS1, then I could only get to the start of the second level. Too hard and weird for me.

Again, if its Medevil from PS1, I cheated and finished the game. When I was 9 it was cool, but it was $50 from Kmart. Rip off. Oh well. Isnt that interesting for me now.

Battlefield 3 would be good, with massive maps, with spawn points spread out, glitch free, bug free, time spent well, and great gameplay. I would love to see fully customisable weapons, as I thought BF2 was a bit weird not having a silenced main weapon, like the MP5 or the M4. Itd be cool if you could change ironsights, made it have lasers, change scopes, have a bipod etc etc. I also want different reloading techniques, such as loading of AK47s. If youre pinned down or something, it takes longer to reload and aim, or when youre shooting someone, your vision becomes blurred or something. That would be nice.

Also, a good C&C Generals sequel would be nice too, as I loved ZH. Im not too fond of the new one (haven’t played it yet but does look good), but I don’t really think that base defence is ideal in the tiberium world. Plus, better graphics would be good too. I looked forward to ZH because of the aircraft carrier, but it was only for a mission. Plus having real world tanks, weapons etc would be good too, instead of this dodgy other stuff. Eg. The soldiers had M16s, snipers M82A1, M24, or M95, rocket guys had stingers or SRAW type missile launchers, an Abrams tank instead of the Crusader, the vehicles to look realistic, and the people to have different idle actions.

And where do we get the original Quake scripting or whatever it is? I wanna frag some zombie guys.

Perhaps my longest post ever....:S

Yeah, you are probably right. I still say the monsters are more badarse in Quake though. I don't know, they just have this really morbid, twisted appeal to me. I'd like the original developers and coders of both Quake and Doom to try both games again with today's tech. That would rock.
